Before choosing health insurance for 2027, here's one question I encourage people to ask:

Will I still be able to see the doctors I want to see?

It's easy to focus on the monthly premium. After all, that's the number you see first.

But a lower premium doesn't help much if you discover later that your preferred doctor or hospital isn't in the plan's network.

And even if you've had the same insurance company for years, it's worth checking the specific plan you're considering.

When I help someone review coverage, we talk about more than price. We talk about how they actually use their insurance.

If keeping certain doctors is important to you, let's make that part of the conversation before you enroll.

Small-business owners, here's something worth thinking about.

What does it actually cost your business when a good employee leaves?

There's the time spent finding someone new.

Training them.

Getting them up to speed.

And sometimes picking up the extra work yourself until everything settles down.

For a small business, losing even one good employee can make a difference.

That's one reason employee benefits are worth discussing.

You may not be able to offer everything a large company offers.

But that doesn't necessarily mean you have nothing to offer.

Depending on your business and budget, there may be practical ways to help employees with their benefits.

If you're running a small business and wondering what might make sense, let's talk.

Have a son or daughter who's turning 26?

That's an age worth paying attention to when it comes to health insurance.

In most situations, young adults can stay on a parent's health insurance plan until age 26.

But what happens when that coverage ends?

Depending on their circumstances, they may be eligible for coverage through an employer, the ACA Marketplace, or other options.

Losing coverage because of aging out of a parent's plan can also qualify someone for a Special Enrollment Period.

The key is understanding when their current coverage ends and what needs to happen next.

If you have a young adult in your family who's approaching 26, it's worth starting that conversation before their coverage runs out.

I'm happy to help you look at the options.

Three Questions I'd Ask Before Choosing a Health Insurance Plan

Before you choose a plan based on the monthly premium, I'd encourage you to ask three questions.

1. Are my doctors and preferred hospitals in the network?
2. How are my prescriptions covered?
3. What could I actually pay out of pocket if I have a major medical expense?

A plan with a lower monthly premium isn't always the least expensive choice when you consider how you'll use it.

That's why I believe a good insurance conversation starts with questions, not a sales pitch.

If you're reviewing coverage for 2027, I'm happy to help you understand what to look for.

Ever notice how everybody seems to have an opinion about health insurance?

Your neighbor loves their plan.

Your brother-in-law says you're paying too much.

Someone on Facebook says they found the perfect coverage.

Here's the problem.

What works for them may have very little to do with what works for you.

Your household, income, medical needs, and eligibility can all affect your choices.

That's why I'm careful about recommending something before understanding someone's situation.

A good insurance conversation starts with questions, not a sales pitch.

If you're hearing conflicting advice about your coverage, I'm happy to help you sort through it.

Here's something self-employed people should know about Marketplace health insurance.

If your income changes during the year, it can affect the financial assistance you're eligible to receive.

And when you work for yourself, predicting exactly what you'll earn isn't always easy.

You might have a great first half of the year.

Then business slows down.

Or maybe things take off and you earn more than expected.

That's why estimating your income carefully and updating the Marketplace when circumstances change is important.

Depending on your actual annual income and other factors, you could end up qualifying for a different amount of financial assistance than you originally expected.

If you're self-employed and trying to figure out health insurance for 2027, this is one of the things we should talk about.

Losing health insurance through your employer can leave you with a lot of questions.

Maybe you changed jobs.

Maybe your employer stopped offering coverage.

Or maybe you're leaving a job to start your own business.

One of the first things people ask is, "What am I supposed to do about health insurance now?"

The good news is that you may have more than one option.

Depending on your situation, those could include COBRA, Marketplace coverage, or other available arrangements.

And losing qualifying employer coverage may give you a special opportunity to enroll outside the normal Open Enrollment period.

The important thing is understanding your options and deadlines before making a decision.

If you're between employer plans or getting ready to work for yourself, give me a call.

We can look at your situation and figure out the next step.

Here's something I don't want anyone to be surprised by this Open Enrollment.

The price you pay for health insurance this year may not be what you pay next year.

And even if you stay with the same insurance company, that doesn't necessarily mean everything about your coverage stays the same.

Premiums can change. Benefits can change. And if you're receiving financial assistance through the Marketplace, the amount you're eligible for can change too.

That's why I encourage people not to assume their renewal will look exactly like last year.

A little preparation now can help you avoid an unpleasant surprise later.

If you're wondering what your health insurance might look like for 2027, let's take a look.

Here's something I think more small-business owners should consider.

You don't have to wait until you have 10, 15, or 20 employees to start thinking about health benefits.

I've met owners who assume they're just too small to offer anything.

But having only two or three employees doesn't automatically mean you have no options.

The question isn't always, "Can I afford a group health insurance plan?"

Sometimes it's, "Is there a practical way I can help my employees with coverage without putting my business in a financial bind?"

There may be options worth exploring, depending on your business and budget.

If you've been putting off that conversation because you think your business is too small, it might be worth another look.

Health insurance isn't one-size-fits-all.

What works for one person or family might not make sense for another.

Your health, your budget, your doctors, and your family's needs all play a part in choosing coverage.

And here's something a lot of people don't realize.

The ACA Marketplace isn't necessarily your only option.

Depending on your situation, private health insurance may be worth looking at too.

If you're self-employed, running a small business, between employer plans, or paying full price for your health insurance, it's worth comparing what's available.

That doesn't mean private coverage is automatically better.

It means you should understand your choices before making a decision.

That's where I come in.

I help people look at their options, understand the differences, and find coverage that makes sense for their situation.

Want to see what might be available for you or your family?

Give me a call or send me a message. I'm happy to have that conversation.

Private plans may have eligibility requirements, exclusions, and benefits that differ from ACA Marketplace coverage. Review plan details carefully before enrolling.
