Scam alert.
SCAM ALERT!!
Several reports have been taken today stating that a caller identifies themselves as a Missoula County Sheriff's Deputy and describes a vehicle that you have owned or currently own. The imposter then goes on to state you have fines from tickets from the vehicle and that you need to pay them immediately. They are so nice they will take your credit card information over the phone and even record your social security number. THIS IS A SCAM!!
Missoula County Sheriff’s Office, or any law enforcement agency, will not call and request banking or credit card information over the phone. If you receive a message stating that it is the Sheriff’s Office and you need to call and pay money owed, do not call the number listed or provide any personal information.
An additional reminder that government agencies and most other businesses will not call and request financial information over the phone. Before providing any personal or financial information, the individual should call the cited agency or organization and confirm the request.
