Had a conversation recently that stuck with me.

20-year service member. Doing everything “right.”

Saving. Contributing to TSP. Close to retirement.

But when we broke it all down…

No real plan. No clarity on income. No tax strategy. No idea what life actually looks like after the uniform comes off.

That’s not uncommon. It’s the norm.

And it’s exactly why so many veterans feel lost
the moment they transition.

Not because they lack discipline—

But because nobody ever showed them how to connect the dots.

That’s what we focus on inside the Veterans Resource Team.

Turning “I think I’ll be okay” into “I know exactly where I’m going.”

👇 If that sounds familiar, let’s talk.

This is what people think retirement looks like:

Freedom.
Time.
No stress.

This is what it actually looks like for most:

Another job.

Not because they failed—but because they never had a plan.

I’m a big believer in enjoying life now.

Family.
Golf.
Good food.
A cold beer after a long week.

But here’s the truth most people avoid:

If you don’t plan for the future, you don’t get to enjoy it the way you think you will.

That’s why we do what we do.

Not just to help people retire—

But to help them live well when they get there.

👇 What does your ideal retirement actually look like?

Leaders—this one’s on you.

If your Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, or Sailors
are financially struggling…

That’s not just a personal issue. That’s a readiness issue.

We talk about:
• Physical readiness
• Mental toughness
• Tactical proficiency

But ignore financial stress—one of the biggest distractions there is.

And then we wonder why people:
• Can’t focus
• Don’t reenlist
• Make bad decisions

Financial literacy isn’t optional anymore.

It’s leadership.

That’s why the Veterans Resource Team exists—
to help leaders bring real-world financial education to their people.

Because taking care of your troops doesn’t stop at the motor pool.

👇 If you’re in a leadership position, let’s connect. Your training schedule has white space if you create it.

Your TSP is not a retirement plan.

It’s a tool.

Big difference.

Too many military families think:
“I’m contributing, so I’m good.”

No.

That’s like saying:
“I own a grill, so I’m a pitmaster.”

Doesn’t work like that.

What actually matters:
• How it’s allocated
• How it’s adjusted over time
• How it connects to your pension, taxes, and lifestyle

That’s the part nobody teaches.

That’s a gap we close inside the Veterans Resource Team.

Because the goal isn’t just to invest…

It’s to retire on your terms.

If nobody’s ever walked you through an actual strategy—
that’s the problem.

Most military families don’t have a money problem.

They have a planning problem.

20 years of service…
A pension…
Benefits most Americans would kill for…

And still—people retire and go right back to work.

Not because they want to.
Because they have to.

That’s not a knock.
That’s reality.

The system doesn’t teach financial readiness.
And most people don’t realize that until it’s too late.

That’s exactly why we built the Veterans Resource Team.

To make sure military families don’t just serve well—
they finish strong.

If you’re still in…
You’ve got time.

If you’re close to retirement…
You’ve got decisions to make.

Either way—
Start acting like your exit plan matters.

👇 Drop “PLAN” and I’ll help you start building one.

TSP vs Roth vs Brokerage: What Military Members Get Wrong (and How to Fix It)

On paper, most military members are doing the right things.

They’re contributing to TSP.
They’ve heard about Roth.
Some even have a brokerage account.

Looks solid.

But here’s the problem:

They’re choosing accounts without understanding the strategy behind them.

That’s where things break down.

The Biggest Mistake: Thinking It’s About “Which Is Better”

TSP vs Roth vs Brokerage isn’t a competition.

It’s coordination.

Each one has a role:
TSP Traditional taxes later
Roth taxes now
Brokerage flexibility

The real question:

How do these work together to create income, reduce taxes, and give you flexibility?

Most people never answer that.

What I Actually See

Military members stacking like this:
100% Traditional TSP
Little to no Roth
No brokerage

Why?

Tax break now
Lower bracket later
Everyone else does it

That’s not strategy.

That’s default behavior.

The Problem With Traditional TSP

You get a tax break today.

Later, every dollar is taxed.

Add in:
Pension
Social Security

Now you’ve built a tax problem in retirement.

You didn’t avoid taxes.

You delayed them and possibly made them worse.

Why Roth Matters

Roth isn’t just another account.

It’s tax control.

Withdrawals are tax free and don’t increase taxable income.

That gives you flexibility to manage brackets and reduce lifetime taxes.

Without Roth, you’re limited.

Why Brokerage Accounts Matter

Most people ignore brokerage accounts.

That’s a mistake.

They provide:
No contribution limits
Tax-efficient capital gains
Access before retirement age

This is your bridge and flexibility account.

The Real Goal: Tax Diversification

You don’t just want investment diversification.

You want tax diversification:
Tax now
Tax later
Tax flexible

Because in retirement, control over where income comes from determines how much you keep.

The Missing Piece: Withdrawal Strategy

Saving is only half the game.

The real question is:

What order do you pull from?

That decision impacts taxes, longevity, and overall performance.

Most people figure this out too late.

Final Thought

You don’t win by picking the “best” account.

You win by building a system where everything works together.

Strategy beats accounts. Every time.

If you’re saving but not sure if it all actually works together…

I built a Military & First Responder Financial Readiness Checklist to help you identify gaps fast.

Message me “CHECKLIST” or book a call.

Let’s turn what you’ve built into something that actually performs.

New month.

Same question:

Are you actually making progress… or just staying busy?

Because those are not the same thing.

If the last few months flew by and nothing in your financial life has really improved—

It’s time to change that.

Military. Veterans. First responders.

This is what I do.

Let’s make May the month things finally start clicking.

Message me. Let’s go to work.

04/30/2026

You did the hard part.

Early mornings. Late nights. Missed holidays. Deployments. Time away from family. And after all that—you earn a military retirement.

But here’s the reality no one says loud enough:

A pension alone is not a retirement plan.
And assuming it is… gets people into trouble.

The Biggest Mistake: Confusing Income with a Plan

Yes, you’ll receive a pension. But what most military members don’t have is:

* A structured income strategy
* A tax plan
* A coordinated investment approach

Instead, they have:

* A TSP
* Maybe a savings account
* Possibly another job lined up

That’s not a plan. That’s a collection of accounts.

And when those accounts aren’t working together—you leave money on the table or create risk you didn’t see coming.

Step 1: Understand What Your Pension Actually Does

Your pension is a foundation—not a finish line.

It covers part of your expenses, not all—especially with:

* Inflation
* Healthcare
* Lifestyle changes

The real question:
What’s the gap between what you’ll receive and what you’ll need?

That’s where planning starts.

Step 2: Your TSP Is Not a Strategy

The TSP is powerful—but most people use it passively:

* Contribute
* Pick a fund
* Hope it grows

What’s missing:

* How it turns into income
* When to withdraw
* In what order
* How to reduce taxes

Without that? It’s just potential—not a plan.

Step 3: Taxes Don’t Disappear in Retirement

“I’ll be in a lower bracket” is a dangerous assumption.

Between:

* Pension
* TSP withdrawals
* Social Security

You can easily create a taxable income stack that costs more than expected.

Smart planning means:

* Roth vs Traditional strategy
* Withdrawal sequencing
* Long-term tax reduction

Because it’s not what you make—it’s what you keep.

Step 4: Sequence Risk (The Silent Killer)

If the market drops early while you’re taking withdrawals, it can permanently damage your portfolio—even if it recovers later.

That’s sequence risk.

Ignore it—and you’re exposed.

Step 5: Transition Planning = Financial Planning

Leaving the military isn’t just a career shift—it’s a financial one.

Now you’re dealing with:

* Civilian income
* Benefits changes
* New expenses
* Different tax rules

If you don’t plan early—you’re reacting instead of leading.

What a Real Plan Looks Like

* Income-driven (not account-driven)
* Tax-efficient (not reactive)
* Coordinated
* Built for flexibility

You operated your career with discipline and precision.

Your finances should be no different.

Because “hoping it works out” isn’t a strategy.

If you’re within 10 years of retirement—or already there—and not 100% confident…

I built a Military & First Responder Financial Readiness Checklist to help you identify gaps fast.

Message me “CHECKLIST” and I’ll send it over.

Let’s make sure everything you’ve earned actually works for you.

Unpopular truth:

Making more money won’t fix a bad financial plan.

I’ve seen high earners stuck.
And disciplined planners win with less.

It’s not about income.

It’s about structure.

If your money doesn’t have a mission—it drifts.

Let’s give it one.
