Last week, we had the wonderful opportunity of having Paula Volent, Chief Investment Officer of Bowdoin College, share with us her experience of being a female leader in the finance space. With an art background, Paula has had an amazingly successful track record of growing Bowdoin’s endowment in the past years. Paula encouraged us to stay positive and motivated during these unprecedented times and work hard towards our goals. Over 20 ladies joined the discussion and were all extremely inspired by Paula’s unique experience and wise words. Thank you Paula for spreading you support and energy when we most need it! Bowdoin’s Chief Investment Officer, Paula Volent spoke at SWS today and shared her personal experience from art history to endowment. Under Ms. Volent, Bowdoin College endowment has presided over an 8.8 percent average annual return over the 10 years that ended June 30, handily beating the 6 percent average for all college endowments with assets of more than $1 billion. Ms. Volent encourages women to step up and always ask questions in their future endeavors, whether in finance or any other field. Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: 2018 SWS Warren Buffett trip in Omaha, NE! Every year 20 members from all Chapters visit Mr. Buffet in person. You could be one of them if you are an active member of SWS! Come to our info session this *TUESDAY* (Feb 6) at 4:30pm in the Telepresence Room (HL basement).

Research Associates' info session is on THURSDAY (Feb 8), same time, same place. To become a Research Associate, you need to complete the 10-week seminar series and investment project in the fall.

Here is a snapshot of this past semester full of learning about finance and investment, getting inspired by speakers from all backgrounds, growing professionally, and much more. We sincerely thank everyone who was involved in making the first SWS seminar series such a fulfilling one. The Executive board is preparing for the Spring semester during winder break, and we are can't wait to come back at it in about a month for more learning and fun times together! Bowdoin SWS Fall 2017 Seminar Series is almost half-way done! What a great two months of learning, conferences, and networking! We have had 4 successful seminars so far, and members are getting started on their Investment Projects. In late September, some E-board members were able to represent Bowdoin at the National SWS Conference in NYC! We are having a Gelato Social event next week for members to get to know each other more and for other people interested in getting involved to learn more about SWS in an informal setting. Stay tuned for more learning and fun at Bowdoin SWS!

After one semester of Soft Launch and the submission of a 100-page chapter prospectus, we are very happy to announce that SWS has been officially chartered at Bowdoin! We have also added two wonderful new leaders: Sam Sloate '18 and Carolyn Bailey '20. We are all so excited for all the events in the fall!

We had a wonderful time at our first event Jeopardy Night! Thank you for coming - we had a full house! Congratulations to Sarah Cartwright, Carolyn Bailey, and Elly Veloria for taking home to Gelato gift cards! We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did and learned more about investing!
