One of the most common surprises Florida homeowners run into after a storm is finding out their policy covers wind but not flood, and that the two aren't the same.
If a hurricane rips shingles off your roof and rain blows in through the opening, that's wind damage, and your homeowners' policy usually handles it.
A storm surge that pushes water into your home from the ground up is a different story. That counts as a flood, and a flood needs its own separate policy.
Plenty of homeowners assume flood damage is already covered under their homeowners' policy. It usually isn't.
The good news is that this is an easy thing to check before the season picks up.
Check your policy or reach out to your account manager, and we'll walk through what you actually have and where any gaps might be.
It’s better to sort it out now than when a storm is about to hit.
