Proposed tariffs on imported generic medicines are raising questions about drug prices, manufacturing, and supply.

Under the proposal, imported generic drugs would face no tariffs for two years. After that, duties would rise to 100% for one year, then to 200%.

The goal is to encourage more pharmaceutical manufacturing in the U.S.

Generic medicines differ from brand-name drugs because they typically compete on price, efficacy, and scale. That can leave manufacturers with thinner margins and less room to absorb higher costs.

Analysts say companies with existing U.S. manufacturing may be better positioned if the tariffs move forward. Others could face difficult choices, including absorbing higher costs, raising prices, shifting production, or exiting certain products.

Generic drugs account for about 90% of prescriptions in the U.S., which makes this an important issue for patients, pharmacies, manufacturers, and health care budgets.

The broader takeaway: trade policy can affect more than global business. It can also influence supply chains, access, and everyday costs.

Some Medicare beneficiaries may soon have access to GLP-1 medications for weight loss through a new temporary pilot program.

The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program is scheduled to run from July 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2027. Eligible patients would pay a $50 monthly copay for certain covered GLP-1 medications.

This marks the first time Medicare will help pay for GLP-1 drugs prescribed solely for obesity, rather than only for certain other medical conditions.

Eligibility depends on several factors, including Medicare Part D coverage, enrollment in an eligible plan, prior authorization, clinical criteria, and whether the patient already receives GLP-1 coverage for another condition.

KFF estimates that 3.8 million Medicare beneficiaries may meet the eligibility requirements.

One important detail: because the program is outside Medicare Part D coverage, the $50 copay does not count toward a patient’s deductible or yearly out-of-pocket cap.

For Medicare beneficiaries, this is a reminder that coverage changes can affect health care costs, prescription access, and household budgets.

For the first time, Medicare will cover GLP-1 drugs prescribed solely for weight loss for eligible beneficiaries at a $50 monthly copay.

Over the past almost 10 years, I've had the privilege of helping so many of you navigate Medicare. I want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for trusting me with such an important part of your healthcare and retirement journey. Your confidence and referrals have meant more than you know.

As my business has grown, I've been focused on building a trusted team that shares my commitment to providing honest guidance and personalized service. With that growth comes an exciting new chapter.

Over the coming weeks, you'll begin to see this page transition to our new name: **Medicare Family Advisors**.

The reason I chose that name is simple. The very first person I ever helped with Medicare was my mom. Since that day, I've made it my mission to treat every client the same way I'd want someone to treat her—with patience, respect, honesty, and genuine care. To me, you're not just clients; you're family.

I'm excited to introduce you to our team soon and officially launch our new website. I truly believe the best is yet to come.

Thank you again for your trust, your continued support, and every referral you've sent my way. I couldn't have reached this point without you, and I'm honored to continue serving you and your families for many years to come.
