Steele Farm Capital Campaign The Historical Soc. is conducting a Capital Campaign to preserve the Farmhouse. The goal is to stabilize the building, allowing for future restoration.

An Endangered Landmark -
With its open fields sloping gently down from the farm buildings on Middle Road, Steele Farm is one of the treasures of Boxborough. Since the Town acquired Steele Farm in 1994,
little has been done to preserve the 1784 Levi Wetherbee (Steele) Farmhouse. The armhouse is currently in a very fragile state and work to maintain its structural integrity is urgently needed. Th

e Boxborough 2030 Master Plan lays out a vision of the Town as “a rural, engaged community for all.” The Plan also points out our rich agricultural heritage. Yet many of the architectural icons of that heritage have disappeared in recent years, and more are threatened, particularly the Steele Farmhouse. The Boxborough Historical Society is conducting a two-year Capital Campaign to Preserve the Steele Farmhouse. Preservation will stabilize the building, allowing for the possibility for future restoration work. We are asking for your help in this Campaign to preserve this prominent piece of our architectural history that is the gateway to Steele Farm. To donate to the Capital Campaign

The Town of Boxborough purchased Steele Farm in the fall of 1994. The Steele Farm Committee will host a 30th anniversary celebration on the property on Saturday October 19 between 2 and 4 PM featuring tours of the barn and ice house, a “look in” at the farmhouse and display of various farm implements. It’s a great chance to come and see and celebrate all the work that has been done!

As part of a Girl Scout Gold Award project, Boxborough resident and high school student Anya Brunker led the first of a series of “Invasive Species Hikes” at Steele Farm on Monday, August 5. The weather was hot and humid, but that didn’t stop a group of approximately 15 from gathering with Anya to investigate this important issue at one of Boxborough’s most iconic conservation lands.
