Back in 2008, I started my career in finance right before the housing bubble burst and the world fell into The Great Recession. Over the next 3 years, I worked directly with hundreds of financial advisors as they guided their clients through the scariest period of economic history since The Great Depression. I learned two things:
1) Financial literacy is essential for individuals and families to
flourish
2) Financial literacy is rare
For some reason, we decided it was important to teach all our kids how to calculate the area of a triangle, but not how to manage money or make smart financial decisions. As a result, too many people feel overwhelmed by their finances and hamstring their futures by making wealth destroying mistakes and missing wealth creating opportunities. It took me a few years, but eventually the lightbulb went off, and I started down the path to become a financial planner and teach these lessons myself. I earned my certificate in financial planning from Boston University and my certificate in Investment Management Theory & Practice from Yale. I became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, a Certified Investment Management Analyst® professional, a licensed instructor for the Financial Educators Network™, and I started an independent financial planning practice at LPL Financial.
