Choosing the wrong Medicare plan can be a costly mistake later in life. Don’t get stuck in the “Medicare Trap!” 🛑

When you turn 65, you can pick almost any plan without answering health questions. But if you choose a Medicare Advantage plan now and want to switch to a Supplement (Medigap) plan later, you may have to pass a medical exam.

If your health has changed, insurance companies could:
• Charge you more 💰
• Deny you coverage entirely 🚫

It’s important to choose a plan based on the health you might have at 85, not just how you feel today.

The “Turning 65” Medicare Cheat Sheet

Turning 65 is a milestone, but the paperwork can be confusing!
Here is the exact path to get started with Original Medicare (Part A & Part B).

WHEN to apply:
Your window opens 3 months before your 65th birthday.
Example: If you turn 65 in June, you can apply as early as March 1st.

HOW to apply (3 Ways):
The government agency that handles Medicare enrollment is actually Social Security.

1. Online (Fastest): Go to ssa.gov/benefits/medicare. Look for the blue “Apply for Medicare” button.

2. By Phone: Call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY
1-800-325-0778).

3. In-Person: Visit your local Social Security office (Call ahead for an appointment!).

WHAT happens next?

Once you receive your Red, White, and Blue card in the mail, you need to decide how to cover the “gaps” (deductibles and copays) and get prescription drug coverage.

• That is where I can help.

I am a licensed agent who can review your doctors and prescriptions to find a plan that fits YOU.

Turning 65 soon? Medicare can feel like a maze, but there’s a big win for your wallet on the horizon.

Starting in 2026, the dreaded Medicare “Donut Hole” (coverage gap) is officially being eliminated. This means your out-of-pocket prescription drug costs will be capped at $2,000 for the year. But there is a catch: Because insurance companies are now responsible for more of these costs, many are changing their “formularies”—the list of drugs they actually cover. A medication covered last year might not be covered the same way in 2026.

Don’t leave your healthcare to chance. It’s time to move off “autopilot” and verify that your specific prescriptions are still protected.

Turning 65 soon? Medicare doesn’t have to be a mystery.

Many people think enrollment is automatic, but for most, it isn’t. If you miss your 7-month window, you could face higher costs for the rest of your life.

What You Need to Know:

• The Window: You have 3 months before and after your 65th birthday month to sign up.
• The Trap: If you aren’t on Social Security yet, you must sign up manually.
• The Cost: Missing the deadline can lead to permanent late penalties.

Don’t guess—get the facts and protect your healthcare.

Thinking about staying on COBRA when you turn 65? Proceed with caution! 🛑

Many seniors believe keeping their employer-sponsored COBRA plan is a safe bet, but it could actually be a “financial trap.” In the eyes of Medicare, COBRA is often not considered “creditable coverage.”

If you delay signing up for Medicare Part B while on COBRA, you could face:

• Lifetime Penalties: A 10% increase in your Part B premium for every year you waited.
• Coverage Gaps: You may have to wait months for a General Enrollment Period to get covered.
• Higher Costs: Paying for both COBRA and potential penalties later.

Don’t let a simple misunderstanding affect your retirement savings! Watch the video to see why making the switch at 65 is usually the smartest move.

Did you know there is a “safety valve” for seniors who are unhappy with their current Medicare Advantage coverage? 🛡️

The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP) runs from January 1st to March 31st. This is a vital time for senior healthcare education. If your 2026 plan doesn’t include your doctor or your prescription drug costs are too high, you may be eligible for a one-time change.

As a Medicare specialist, my goal is to ensure you understand your Medicare benefits and rights. Don’t spend 2026 in a plan that doesn’t serve you.

✅ What you can do:
• Switch to a different Medicare Advantage Plan.
• Return to Original Medicare.

Should you choose Plan G or Plan N?

Choosing the right Medicare Supplement plan is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your retirement. Here is the simple math behind the two most popular plans:

✅ Option 1: Plan G (The “Worry Free” Plan) If you hate surprise bills, this is for you.

Pros: 100% coverage for Medicare-approved costs after you
pay a one-time annual deductible of $283.

Cons: Higher monthly premiums (typically $150 - $250).

✅ Option 2: Plan N (The Lower Premium Option) If you are healthy and don’t mind small bills, this might save you money.

Pros: Significantly lower monthly premiums.

Cons: You are responsible for copays (up to $20 at the doctor, $50 at the ER) and potential “Part B Excess Charges” if your doctor doesn’t accept Medicare assignment.

‼️ The Verdict: Are you willing to trade a little responsibility for a lower monthly bill? Watch the video to see which plan fits your lifestyle best!
