If you have 0 credit and have no idea where to start, this is for you...
5 Tips to Build a 700+ Credit Score From Nothing FAST
1.) Secured Credit Card: If you have no credit history, a secured credit card can be a great way to begin building credit. Secured cards require a security deposit, which serves as your credit limit. Use the card responsibly by making small purchases and paying off the balance in full each month. This demonstrates to creditors that you can manage credit responsibly.
2.) Become an Authorized User: Another option is to become an authorized user on someone else's credit card account, such as a parent or family member. Their positive credit history can be reported on your credit report, helping you establish credit. Just make sure the primary cardholder has a good payment history and low credit card balances. This is also called piggybacking. If you have an uncle or dad with great credit, let them know this will not affect their credit at all if they just keep the card that is sent out too. But the boost in credit for you can be HUGE.
3.) Apply for a Credit Builder Loan: Credit builder loans are designed specifically for individuals with no credit or poor credit. These loans work by depositing the loan amount into a savings account or certificate of deposit (CD) that you can access once the loan is paid off. As you make timely payments on the loan, your payment history is reported to the credit bureaus, helping you build credit. MAKE sure to not mess these up though 😤
4.) Pay Your Bills on Time: This one should go without saying, but you might be surprised... but certain types of payments, like rent and utilities, may not be reported to the credit bureaus by default, some services offer the option to report these payments to credit bureaus. Alternatively, you can use alternative credit reporting services to report your non-traditional payments, such as rent and utility bills, to help build your credit history.
5.) Monitor Your Credit Report: Regularly monitoring your credit report allows you to keep track of your progress and identify any errors or discrepancies that may need to be addressed. You're entitled to a free copy of your credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) once a year through AnnualCreditReport.com.
By following these steps and practicing responsible credit habits, you can gradually build a positive credit history and improve your credit score over time. Remember, building credit is a marathon, not a sprint, so be patient and consistent in your efforts.
