September is Life Insurance Awareness Month… which means I’m legally obligated to remind you about the thing most people don’t want to talk about. 😂

Life insurance.

I know. Not exactly a fun topic.

But here’s the thing: life insurance isn’t really about you. It’s about the people who would have to figure everything out if you weren’t here.

Mortgage.
Car payments.
Kids.
Childcare.
College.
Funeral expenses.
The everyday bills that don’t stop just because someone is gone.

And before you say, “I probably can’t afford it,” you might be surprised. You don’t know what it costs until you ask.

So this month, I’m challenging you to do one thing:

⛈️ That Labor Day storm was no joke.

If you’re east of Billings, especially around Huntley, Shepherd or Worden, you may be waking up today to more than just a mess to clean up.

We’ve seen reports of large hail, heavy rain, flooding, broken windows and property damage throughout the area. Some hail was reported at more than 2 inches, with one report measuring nearly 3.5 inches.

If your home, vehicle or other property was damaged, here are a few things to do before you start cleaning everything up:

📸 Take photos and videos of the damage before making repairs.
🛠️ Prevent further damage where you safely can, but save receipts for temporary repairs.
🚗 Check your vehicles for hail damage, even if it isn't immediately obvious.
🏠 Look over your roof, siding, windows, gutters and other exterior areas.
📞 Contact your insurance agent if you're unsure whether you have a claim or what your next step should be.

And remember—you don't have to figure it all out before calling us. That's what we're here for.

🎓 Sending a kid off to college? Don’t pack the mini fridge before you check the insurance! 😂

College move-in season is here, and there are a few insurance questions parents should think about before their student heads off to school:

🏠 Living in a dorm?
Your homeowners policy may provide coverage for some of your student’s belongings—but there can be limitations, especially when they’re away from home.

🏡 Renting an apartment or house?
Don’t assume your homeowners policy covers everything. Your student may need a renters policy to protect their belongings and provide liability coverage.

💻 Laptop? iPad? Gaming system? TV?
Take a quick inventory of what they're taking with them. Photos, receipts, and serial numbers can make a HUGE difference if something is lost or stolen.

🚗 Taking a car to college?
Where the car is kept and how often your student drives it can affect your auto insurance. Give your agent a heads-up before they leave.

🔑 And one more thing…
If they're moving into an apartment, ask about the landlord's insurance requirements BEFORE move-in day.

Basically: call your insurance agent before you load the U-Haul. 😉
