Farmers and ranchers face financial pressures that most people outside agriculture never think about.

Healthcare costs don’t just affect personal finances — they affect the operation itself.

Premiums, deductibles, and medical bills can impact:
• cash flow
• expansion plans
• equipment purchases
• long-term stability

After 7 years in insurance, I’ve seen how important it is for rural families to have coverage that actually fits their situation.

Rural healthcare access matters more than most people realize when choosing Medicare coverage.

A plan that works well in a large city may not work nearly as well for someone living hours away from major care centers.

Networks matter.
Travel matters.
Specialists matter.
Prescription coverage matters.

After 7 years working with rural families in insurance, I’ve seen how important it is to choose coverage that actually fits where and how you live.

If you have questions about your Medicare options, give me a call or text at 855-701-7113.

One thing I’ve learned after 7 years working with farmers and ranchers in insurance is this:

Agriculture is different.

Cash flow is different.
Retirement looks different.
Healthcare access is different.

And Medicare planning should reflect that.

A lot of rural families feel like nobody understands the unique challenges that come with ag life — especially when it comes to healthcare, retirement, and protecting the operation.

That’s why working with someone who understands agriculture matters.

If you need help navigating Medicare, give me a call or text at 855-701-7113.

In agriculture, there’s always another job to finish.

Calving.
Seeding.
Harvest.
Repairs.

And a lot of producers put their own healthcare planning at the bottom of the list.

But Medicare deadlines matter — and missing them can create penalties, higher costs, or gaps in coverage later on.

After 7 years working with farmers and ranchers in insurance, I’ve seen how easy it is for people to delay Medicare planning simply because they’re busy running the operation.

A lot of farmers & ranchers are surprised by what Medicare DOESN’T cover.

Dental.
Vision.
Hearing.

Those are some of the biggest healthcare expenses many rural families face as they get older — especially after decades of physical labor.

After 7 years working in insurance and helping farmers and ranchers navigate Medicare, I’ve learned that many people assume Medicare covers “everything.”

It doesn’t.

Understanding those gaps early can make a major difference in protecting retirement cash flow and avoiding unexpected costs later on.

If you have questions about Medicare coverage, give me a call or text at 855-701-7113.

Growing up in a ranch family with two expensive type 1 diabetics, healthcare was never just “a medical issue.” My aunt and I both have type 1 diabetes, and before diabetes care became what it is today, there were emergency flights, hospital stays, expensive medications, travel for care, and major costs insurance didn’t fully cover.

On farms & ranches, healthcare costs don’t just affect your personal finances — they affect the operation itself. If too much money is going toward premiums, copays, medications, deductibles, or medical bills, that directly limits what a farm or ranch can reinvest back into the operation.

It determines whether you can:
• purchase hay & fertilizer
• replace equipment
• maintain positive cash flow

As I got older and started interviewing farmers and ranchers across the U.S. through my MBA program, I realized our family wasn’t unique. I kept hearing stories about rising healthcare costs, confusing insurance options, and rural families struggling to protect the operations they’ve spent generations building.

One rancher told me:
“A lot of people in agriculture are dropping insurance because they simply can’t afford it.”

That problem is why I started Old Western Insurance.

To help rural families find affordable health coverage and protect their operation and future with practical health & wealth strategies built for rural life.

Old Western Insurance Project Update!

At Old Western Insurance, one of our long-term goals is to help strengthen farm and ranch communities across the Old West - not just through insurance, but by understanding the real challenges people are facing day to day.

As part of that mission (and my MBA program through William Jewell in KC, MO), I have been interviewing farmers and ranchers about how things like Medicare, Marketplace plans, and health insurance decisions impact their operations.

Now I am moving into Phase 2 of this project.

This next round is focused on bigger picture challenges like:

-Cash flow and rising expenses
-Debt and banking relationships
-Insurance decisions and risk
-Hiring, labor, and workload
-Effects of cattle and crop prices
-What actually drives (or limits) profitability

The goal is simple:

Find practical ways to help farm and ranch operations stay profitable, sustainable, and keep the next generation on the land.

I am looking to complete 100 interviews by the end of the semester.

These are open conversations - no sales, just learning from real experiences.

If you are a farmer or rancher (or know someone who is), I would really appreciate your help.

Join the group here:

Or message me directly if you would be open to participating.

Appreciate everyone who has helped so far - this is something I am serious about building into real value for our communities.

“Every harvest starts with a seed. Every legacy starts with a decision.”

Just like a farmer sows grain in faith — knowing he may not see the full reward this season — life insurance is an act of stewardship for the next generation. It’s a quiet but powerful way to leave behind something more than memories: security, opportunity, and a chance to break the cycle of generational poverty.

If every working adult in America had even a modest life insurance policy, we could transform the financial future of millions of families in one generation. It’s not about leaving behind wealth — it’s about making sure your loved ones aren’t left behind.

Like the old hands in a wheat field, the work we do today has ripple effects tomorrow.

Marketplace-ACA-Obamacare Question: Are Deductibles bad?

Hey partner! Deductibles aren't necessarily the worst thing in the world.

If you hardly use your health insurance it may be better to pocket $300-$1600 a month by choosing a high deductible plan.

Put some of that in an HSA, invest the rest with one of my other products and you will be prepared for that "bad year" without killing your current cash flow or "lost opportunity cost".

I saved a family member $19,000 this year in premiums. They did have a bad year health wise and still ended up saving over $12,000 with their $7500 deductible.

Other agents don't do the big picture math.

Remember hospitals will set up payment plans!!

This strategy increases your cash flow, saves you thousands that you can do better things with at your discretion.

Pick a plan with "Easy Pay" and they cap the cost of your regular dr visits and prescriptions making the deductible not count in those situations.
