Black Heritage Foundation of Billings

Black Heritage Foundation of Billings We educate the community through honoring culture, struggles, and accomplishments of black people. The Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.

Holiday has been observed in Billings since 1994. Since 1998 the black Heritage Foundation has led in the Monday evening celebration, Inviting the community to join in the spirit of Dr. king, In the seeking expression of Justice and equal opportunity for all. King met opportunities and challenges by quiet yet firm confrontation rather than reacting in violence. He stressed love for enemies and tho

se opposing his action for peace. For the January 21st, 2013, We will host the celebration at the Lincoln Center. This wonderful program will include a city wide choir perform, city officials and guest speakers and other performances. Because of the expense incurred to rent the center, set up, publications and other advertising, We ask that you join with others in making a financial contribution this year. This will support our 20th year of our city-wide observation in Billings. Your contribution is tax deductible, since the Black Heritage Foundation has 501-c-3 status. Sponsorship donations may be mailed to Black Heritage Foundation at P.O.BOX 31001, Billings, MT 59107. Significant contributions will be recognized and printed on the program of January 21st. We also invite you to participate with your presence at the vent of MLK Jr. Black Heritage host a dinner on saturday evening, January 19th. This will be at the south park senior center, and features a soul-food dinner and a silent auction. MSUB hosts a Bell ringing on compass on Monday morning January 21st. There are possible other events not yet announced that may be led by the organization through the weekend. If you have any questions or need further information, write us at the P.O.BOX, or phone MLK committee chair, Paul Reeder at 406-252-7458. Thank you for sharing in the spirit of Dr. King. Sincerely

The Billings Public Library is a valuable third space in our community. It’s a spot to come together and a spot to find some quiet. It’s also a place to learn. A venue for classes like this one below 👇🏻

On May 24th Wayne will demonstrate the WHYs and HOWs of simple year-round gardening, why it’s so important to take better control of what we eat, and why our soils are the “stomach” of our health and world. 🌱 Learn how to build an effortless 3-minute, no-dig vegetable garden and plant easy-to-grow healthy, healing foods. 🍓🥕🍅

Wayne will share his gardening expertise including observations on how we can adapt to changing weather conditions by changing to crops that thrive in hotter weather, why it’s extremely important to STOP overdigging, plowing, and rototilling, and why our world needs healthy, live soils. It’s easier and simpler than you might think!

Today in Black History Month we honor Anarcha Westcott. She was a 17 year enslaved girl who underwent roughly 30 operations without anesthesia for a vesicova**nal fistula ( abnormal connection between va**na and bladder= urine coming through your va**na).

She healed after this surgery. James Marion Sim (we refuse to refer to him as doctor) was the racist man who performed these surgeries on her, and is denoted as the father of Gynecology.

However, we would like to say Anarcha is the mother of gynecology. Without her strength, grit, and bravery she wouldn't have survived those procedures. We couldn't imagine doing surgery on someone without some form of anesthesia. Black history is America's history. The story must be told even when it's not pretty.
