Tonight’s Moon has a pretty dramatic name: the Sturgeon Moon 🌕🐟
More precisely, tonight, August 27 into August 28, 2026, the Sturgeon Moon will pass through a deep partial lunar eclipse, with about 96% of the Moon entering Earth’s darkest shadow. It may take on that gorgeous coppery-red “blood moon” appearance.
So you’ll hear it called:
* 🌕 Sturgeon Moon = the August full moon
* 🌑 Deep Partial Lunar Eclipse = the actual eclipse
* 🩸 Blood Moon = the informal name because the eclipsed Moon can turn reddish
And since you’re in Northern Colorado, you’re in a particularly good part of the country to see it. The eclipse reaches its maximum at roughly 10:13 p.m. Mountain Time tonight.
If you want, I can also tell you exactly what time you should go outside in Berthoud and when the Moon will be at its reddest, plus which direction to look. 🌙✨. #
