Why Mothers are Great and So are You!

Have you noticed today that many of the posts are in honor of mothers and parents – and rightfully so as who would we be without them – or our children without us? And in many ways we are all parents in one form or another? There are those in our lives for whom we care and many depend on us. I wish to share with you one such person – my daughter – Natasha – and her mother and her sisters.

Natasha suffers from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) which became apparent as she became a teenager. The effects and outcomes of her disability have been daunting for us as a family. You know the normal challenges a parent can have in raising a child. Well add in the mix - FAS, with multiple attachment disorders and impaired mental capacities, and you have a challenge of a lifetime. And unless we find a cure, which we may, she will be dependent on others the rest of her life. Natasha didn’t do anything to bring-on this challenge in her life, nor did her mother or me when we adopted her at four years old from Kazakhstan.

Yet my wife, Sharon, and her sisters (by adoption) have been and will always be there for her – Natasha knows this. But the mother bears all as “day-in and day-out” mother is there for every call and every circumstance – as there is no-one else. There are no excuses for the mother – being tired, discouraged, or ‘wanting-out’ is not an option.

So it is in our personal lives today wherever we are. There are challenges and ‘road-blocks’ that keep us from meeting our goal or accomplishing our dreams. But we find a way to overcome the challenge and ‘drive through’ the road block. If we employ ‘motherly instincts’ we will truly all be millionaires.
