One of the most common questions I hear this time of year: "Am I actually on track for retirement?"
And the honest answer is that most people are measuring the wrong thing.
Your savings balance tells you where you are today. It doesn't tell you whether your money can do what you need it to do for as long as you need it to.
Four questions worth asking yourself right now:
1) Do you know what retirement will actually cost you each month?
2) Do you have a clear income plan that covers those costs?
3) Have you stress tested your plan against a downturn or a major healthcare expense?
4) Has someone looked closely at your plan in the last 12 months?
If any of those feel uncertain it's not a reason to panic. It's a reason to take a closer look.
This is exactly the kind of conversation we're having with clients right now during our mid-year Strategy and Tactical Season.
