For those that think I or other photographers charge too much, here’s a quick breakdown of just some of my expenses:
Camera BODY ONLY: $3200
Camera Lens #1: $1700
Camera lens # 2: $900
Monthly subscriptions for editing/gallery delivery/marketing: $75ish
This doesn’t include SD cards, hard drives, computers, props, travel time, gas, EDITING time, all of the time I take away from my family and myself quite honestly, and a whole lot more.
For the past 5ish years I’ve been doing this (in addition to a full time job) I’ve always strived to keep my prices affordable but still provide quality results that will last a lifetime and reach all brackets because let’s face it, times are hard and we’re not all rolling in money. Most of us don’t do this for the money but because we truly enjoy it. Be nice to your photographers and please don’t think we’re all money hungry when we set pricing at what we do. There’s so so so much more to it than what meets the eye.
