I recently spent a few days in a 100 year old cabin on a lake in rural Alabama.

No crowds. No schedule. No noise.

And somewhere in that quiet, I realized how much I needed the space to think.

This has been a difficult real estate market. Buyers are cautious. Sellers are frustrated. Rates have made people nervous. And for those of us in the mortgage world, there has been a lot of pressure to keep moving, keep producing, and have all the answers.

It’s easy to get so focused on the next transaction that you forget to ask yourself what all of it is for.

A few quiet days gave me some perspective. Here is what I came away with.

I still believe deeply in homeownership. I still believe good advice matters even more in a challenging market. But I also think this season has made me more thoughtful about the way I want to work — with more intention and less noise.

We spend so much time talking about the price of homes, the cost of money, and where the market is headed.

Lately, I’ve been thinking more about the value of peace, clarity, and knowing what deserves my attention. And what doesn’t.

Stepping away for a moment helps you see the bigger picture. And in a market like this, the real advantage isn’t having more answers—it’s knowing exactly what to ignore so you can focus on what actually matters.
