The excessive rainfall has exploded the harmful & aggresive invasive weeds in the Reservoir and there is no budget or manpower for remediation. Problem is critical to remove as many seed pods before they spread further in the park and neighboring communities. Initial focus is on the west side to south side of park from the lake out to the main roads Havana and Belleview and Cherry Creek Drive Sou
th. Will do is several phases. Phase 1, cut seed pod and place in plastic garbage bag with just seed heads of both plants to stop future propagation. Each Thistle has dozens of heads even up to over 100 per plant, and the wind blows thousands of very small and light seeds everywhere. They are ripening to white at present time - critical stage. The red/pink seed pod will soon ripen as dry warmer weather comes. Phase 2, is clip top seed pod of Mullein and put into plastic garbage bags. For both of these easy tasks clippers or strong sciscors should do. Place full bags on trail near the trail head or on the inner reservoir road. Phase 3, is to cut each plant to the ground with loopers or strong clippers and let them become compost for the soil. Great family service project or for community groups. We can remove 1 million seed pods if we all pitch in for the next month.
