Blood cancer can feel like something that happens to someone else, until it touches someone you know. A neighbor. A friend. A coworker. Someone in your own family.

For ACU employee Betty, the fight is deeply personal. She lost her mother to non-Hodgkin lymphoma at just 19 years old, and years later her husband was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma. Today, she’s turning those deeply personal experiences into something meaningful, creating handmade beaded pens to help raise money in the fight against blood cancer, and raising $1454 for Blood Cancer United so far this year.

“It’s difficult to watch someone I love struggle every day.”

Ashley, an ACU employee, remembers the heartbreak of watching her father’s health rapidly deteriorate earlier this year. Then came a diagnosis that changed everything: multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.

Nine months into weekly treatments, Ashley’s dad is still fighting. She says, “Every day feels like a new blessing, and every bit of progress reminds us that there is still hope.”
