DID YOU KNOW?
Yesterday, at the funeral home, I was asked “What is putting someone instate mean?”

Putting a decedent “instate” is when us, the funeral home staff, present the deceased for viewing by mourners and others, prior to (most cases)or sometimes after the funeral service. For more information on terms in the funeral home industry please reach out to me I’d be glad to assist you😎🙏🏾.

The last thing you want to do is prepare for death. But when the time comes, emotions are so high you feel like you are running like a chicken with your head cut off to get things in order. Think of it like this, preparing ahead helps relieve the stress of yourself, kind of like studying for a test instead of waiting for a late-night cram session. We will never be fully prepared for anyone’s disposition, but by preparing in advance, with these few checklist items before coming into the funeral home, you will relieve some of the stress and burden for yourself and the rest of your loved ones.
TODAY we will dive into Clothing
1. Make sure to do a full set of clothing (including undergarments)
2. Shoes are not necessary
3. Jewelry, watches, eye glasses and religious or personal items (rosary, medals) may be brought in when the arrangements are made. On the day of the funeral, we will confirm which items you wish to be left in the casket and which are to be removed.
*If Cremation, we advise family to bring in clothing.
*We can also help with your selection if you are having difficulties.

FUNERAL HOME CHECKLIST SERIES!

TODAY we will dive into Program information
1. If traditional burial or memorial service, start getting together the order of service
-Consisting of Officiant, Eulogist, readers of scripture (if wanted), and time of reflections. (Most people prefer 2-3 minutes max; except if certain people are on program)
2. Venue for service/disposition- it’s important to make sure to reserve the venue and interment (grave space).

3. Obituary written- this is usually the hardest part so taking care of this earlier maybe best. Also, Get a list of surviving relatives and their cities of Residence as well.
4. Pictures- make sure you start looking for pictures that you know you want on the program. Start with the cover photo and then look for other pictures for your program.

Tips that will help to prepare is getting hobbies, community involvement, and relative information to put in a safe place so that your informant knows where to go to get it.

An “Informant“ is the person who is informing the funeral director of information about you during funeral arrangements.
