Starting black history month off in Lagos, Nigeria.
It’s my first time in Lagos and I was invited by a amazing friend to her sisters traditional Ibibio African wedding- they are such a beautiful couple🖤🖤!
Learning the Afwa Ibom history brings about many emotions. My first experience in Africa was to Ghana 3 years ago and where I visited the “castles”, the Akan tribe and learned intricate details of the slave trade. So far during my trip I found myself having to push past the “what if I was born and lived here?” thoughts. Although I live in the states…Africa gives me a warm sense of being home, pride that’s unmatched and peace within knowing where I come from. I will fill up on all this culture to last me until my next trip. It’s a lot to learn and it’s even more to cherish. If the most high allows- I want to absorb more of Africa every year if possible… to South Africa to learn more of the plight of Nelson Mandela …Senegal…all the way to Morocco. I want to learn more of who we are and what traditions we came from.
We are resilient, we are love, we are so beautiful and we are powerful no matter where we are on the planet 🌎.
It’s Black History 365 days out of the year ❤️🖤❤️‼️‼️Sometimes I wonder if Black History “Month” should even be a thing. It’s not to be minimized. Every culture should celebrate their history as much as possible.
We must continue to teach our children our history. I’ll share more photos of my journey throughout my trip. Be blessed.
