"A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." — Lao Tzu

I used to think building a life like this required some huge leap, quitting a job, taking on massive risk, and having it all figured out before starting.

It didn't. It started with one small step: learning something new on the side, without blowing up anything else in my life first.

For me, that step was learning how the travel industry actually works from the inside, how booking access works, how income can be built around it, and how much of it can be done from a laptop, on my own time.

I'm not saying everyone needs to do exactly what I did. I'm saying the "ideal life" people picture usually isn't one big decision. It's a small first step, taken consistently.

If you're curious what that first step could look like for you, I'm happy to share what I've learned.

A friend of mine moved back in with her mother last year, not because anything was wrong, just because she wanted to be present while her mom could still enjoy having her around.

The hard part wasn't the decision to be there. It was figuring out how to still earn an income while doing it.

That's the piece people don't talk about enough. Working from home isn't just about convenience for a lot of people; it's what actually makes caregiving possible. No asking for time off. No choosing between a pay cheque and being present for someone who needs you.

I've learned there are more ways to build income from home than most people realize, including through something as simple as helping people book their travel.

If you're in a season where being present for someone matters more than a 9-to-5 ever could, I'm happy to share what I've learned.

Most people think travel discounts are only for people who travel constantly or that you need to be a "travel agent" in the traditional sense to access them.

Here's what's actually true:

You don't need to travel often to benefit. Even booking one or two trips a year through the right access can save real money. Hotels, cruises, resorts, and packages that aren't always visible on public booking sites.
"Travel agent" today looks nothing like it did 20 years ago. No shopfront, no suit, no desk phone; it's a laptop, a few hours a week, and knowing where to look.
The income side is separate from the travel side. Some people do this purely for their own trips. Others turn it into a small income stream by helping friends and family book theirs. Both are valid reasons to learn how it works.

I wish someone had explained this to me plainly before I looked into it myself, so consider this me doing that for you.

Happy to answer questions if you're curious how it actually works.

A friend of mine recently told me something that stuck with me: her family used to plan vacations around whatever was left over at the end of the month.

Now, they plan vacations, and she brings in extra income while doing it. Simply by helping other families book their trips through a home-based travel booking platform.

It's not a side hustle that demands hours she doesn't have. It's something she works into nap times, weekends, evenings after the kids are in bed. A second stream of income that doesn't require quitting anything or upending her life, just a laptop, some flexibility, and a willingness to learn something new.

I think a lot of us are looking for exactly that right now: not a total career overhaul, just *one more option*. One more way to build a little breathing room for our families.

If you've ever wondered whether something like this actually works in real life, I'm happy to share what I know.

What's your Plan B?

It's a question most people brush off until something forces them to actually think about it. A layoff. A hiring freeze. A slow season at work that lasts longer than expected.

Here's what's worth knowing before that moment arrives: a "Plan B" doesn't have to mean starting over. For a lot of people, it means having a second, smaller income stream already running in the background, something built around a skill or interest they already have, not something that demands a second full-time job.

Travel is one of those categories most people don't realize still has room in it. Not because everyone needs to become an agent, but because the infrastructure to build a small, flexible income around travel booking already exists: supplier relationships, licensing, systems, all built by an established host agency. You're not creating something from nothing. You're stepping into something that already works, at whatever pace fits your life.

So the real question isn't really "what's your Plan B?" as a hypothetical. It's whether you'd rather build one on your own timeline, or figure it out under pressure when you don't have one.

Curious what that actually looks like in practice? Comment "LEARN" and I'll walk you through it.

What are you waiting for?

It's Saturday morning, the one day most people actually stop and ask themselves that question, even if just for a minute over coffee.

Here's something most people don't realize: the travel industry didn't disappear when booking sites got big. It just changed who's in it. The agents still around today aren't typing prices into a screen; they're the ones who understand suppliers, know which properties over-promise, and can be reached when a trip goes sideways.

That shift is also what opened the door for this to become something people build on the side, around a life and a job they already have, not something that requires starting over.

Nobody hands you that information by default. Most people just assume that "travel agent" is a career that no longer exists.

So if you've ever had that Saturday-morning thought, the one where you wonder if there's a different way to build income around the life you actually want, this is usually where that question leads people.

Comment "LEARN" and I'll walk you through how it actually works.

Myth: Travel agents became obsolete when Google happened.

Here's what actually happened: the booking sites got bigger, but so did the mess. Overbooked flights. Non-refundable "deals" that turn into non-refundable disasters. Nobody to call when a connection gets cancelled at 11pm in an airport you don't recognise.

So the industry didn't shrink. It specialised.

The agents who are still around aren't the ones typing prices into a screen; that job did disappear. The ones left are the ones who know which cruise cabins actually have the view, which resorts over-promise, and who to call at 2am when a trip goes sideways.

That shift is also why this became something people build part-time, around a job they already have, rather than a full front-desk career. The host agency already built the infrastructure, supplier relationships, booking systems, and licensing. You're not starting a travel company from scratch. You're stepping into one that already works.

Most people don't know that distinction exists. That's really what this page is for.

Comment LEARN if you want the honest version of how it works not the pitch, the actual mechanics.
