The Bleed Effect

The bleed effect is a concept of relevance, that everything is connected in some kind of way. Neglecting an area of life will negatively affect other areas of life bleeding into them. An important concept to grasp, necessary especially when there is an area of life that has a particular priority to the individual. They must understand that neglecting other areas, even at a lower priority to them, still affects their target area of life. This has the potential to set one back if they have goals and values rooted within this area of life.

Everything is relevant, connected by a butterfly chain effect. For instance, prioritizing workouts and physical health would also require addressing other areas of life such as emotional wellbeing, personal finances, social connections, career health, etc as these things can directly or indirectly affect one’s training if they aren’t careful. In that approach, the prioritized area of life will have a stable foundation to thrive on, and minimal structural fault points. This will increase their chances of success in that target area of life by eliminating obstacles at its core through a proactive balance of living.

Life happens. There’s no stopping that, but what the bleed effect teaches is to learn to take a more holistic and balanced approach to living life and working towards goals. There will be times where everything can be going smooth sailing, and then bam, something happens in life that requires you to address it. The bleed effect promotes not only a solid approach to living and working towards your goals, but also a flexible approach to living and working towards your goals. If one area of life suffers and needs attention, one must not neglect it, but address it. That’s not to say that they should pour all their energy into that one area, but find a way to be flexible in the other areas to accommodate their attention to the area that suffers. This requires flexibility.

When you think about ‘practice’  what do you tend to think about? Or more like who do you tend to think about? What type of person– an athlete right? The term practice is to drill a particular action or skill into your muscle memory in order to improve said skill or action.

Here’s the thing… Practice is not only for athletes, it’s for everyone. If you're not practicing for a sport or physical activity, then you’re practicing for life. An athlete practices skills and actions that best mimic their particular sport or physical activity, so they can be able to perform their best in their sport. An everyday person should be practicing functional movements that mimic real life movements, so they can be able to perform their best in their everyday life.

Think of everyday things you do in your life on a day to day basis. Driving, sitting down, lifting heavy things, walking, etc. Each of these things are comprised of functional movements.

Break these movements up by three regions: Upper body, core, and lower body. ☝️

Crunch Time ⌚️
Get in, get out. 35 minutes, no more than 45 minutes.
Never underestimate the importance of a proper warmup and cooldown though.
