Competency is defined as the ability to do something successfully or efficiently.

With financial literacy scores being at the lowest of all communities, higher debt balances, lack of emergency savings all while under systemically lower wages than other communities- it's tough to say we are financially competent.

Atlanta Life Insurance Company was a black owned life insurance company founded by Alonzo Herndon in 1905 in the lucrative black business section called Auburn Avenue. Herndon was a former slave and ended up becoming the first black millionaire in Atlanta. The company is still in existence today, although it's been on the decline. With the help of Magic Johnson, who already owns EquiTrust, another life insurance company, Atlanta Life can get a jolt of energy to boost their prominence in the retail space with individuals again.

Life insurance is a big part of the wealth game. To take advantage with a black owned company is something we should all pay attention to.
