Great article on how to get more motivated to keep your finances in order. I've quoted the Jerry Seinfeld line to clients many times. So funny to see it here.

One of my favorite podcasts in the Mental Illness Happy Hour – it’s comedian Paul Gilmartin exploring the human condition through surveys and interviews that are engaging, touching, enlightening and humorous.

I’ve been a listener since it started back in 2011. And back in March, I actually became a guest! :) I’ve been on podcast before but this was the first one where I’ve been a fan for years. It was such a great experience to meet Paul and sit across from him in his studio.

The ep just dropped so listen to me tell stories about the psychology of money. NOTE: my interview starts at about the 20 minute mark if you want to skip the surveys.

If I got a dollar for everytime I.... nevermind, I wouldn't know how to manage it anyways...Thanks Christine for unpacking our wallets and the feelings that come with it!

Side note: if you've been to my seminars, you know I'm always telling people to find out how “free" financial services make their money, so you are not paying in hidden way. This is for real free, with no upselling to you because it is paid for by grant programs.

Financial Planning for people with disabilities can have some special considerations. If you or a loved one has a disability where do you go for objective information on government benefits and tax advantage accounts that can impact your financial plan?

One answer is the National Disability Institute’s website. https://www.nationaldisabilityinstitute.org/financial-wellness/benefits-planning/?fbclid=IwAR30TUOQjplmuU3RJpSdd3QxKm6H6eYx_fwq9irG_azRFWb7FS9HbqzfXQU

Check out their page their page on benefits planning. Here you can learn about which benefits you may be eligible for, including the tax advantage ABLE account.

This couple came to me mid-2019 because they had over $70K in credit card debt. They did a fantastic job working the program and in 3 months were able to run on their own. By the end of 2019 they had paid off $20K. Now at the end of 2020 they have paid it all off + have $20K saved. Just in time too, because they are now proud parents of a 4-month old!

I love this one. 2020 has been a hard year for parents with school-aged kids. This client is a single mom who suddenly had her daughter home all day while she tried to keep up with work. Since that was unsustainable she wound up spending way more than she had ever planned this year on childcare and tutoring.

The good news is that she worked really hard in 2019 on building up her emergency fund and getting her cash flow under control, so she's been able to make it work.

More stories of financial ups and downs for the crazy year that was 2020. This one is a family of 4. they brought in extra income and paid off credit card debt. Yay! Then they borrowed against their 401K for reasons I might not have approved of in normal times. But 2020 was not normal times. Read on.

Happy new year! I like to wrap up the year with inspirational stories from my clients. But many people's plans went awry in 2020 and progress did not always move in straight line. So I'm sharing stories of financial setbacks, successes, and everything in between. Here's the first one.
