Medicare Mondays.

Three years ago there was no ceiling on what you could spend at the pharmacy. Then there was one: $2,000 in 2025, $2,100 this year. In 2027 it's $2,400. Once you hit it, covered Part D prescriptions cost you $0 for the rest of the year.

Notice the number moves every single year. So does your plan's drug list, and the deductible - $615 this year, $700 in 2027. The plan that fit you last October may not be the cheapest one for you in January.

Turning 65 this year? You get a 7-month window to sign up — the 3 months before your birthday month, your birthday month, and the 3 months after. Miss it, and you can end up waiting for coverage and paying a late penalty for as long as you have Part B.

Most people don't need all 7 months. They need one good conversation before the window opens.

Three things people believe about Medicare that just aren't true:

❌ "Medicare is free." Most people pay a monthly premium for Part B, plus whatever their drug or Advantage plan costs.

❌ "It covers long-term care." Original Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing custodial care in a nursing home. That's a separate conversation, and it's worth having early.

❌ "I'm stuck with the plan I have." Annual Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7. That's your window to change.

Three things you can do right now:

📋 Watch for your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). Your plan mails it by September 30. It spells out exactly what's changing in your coverage for 2027.

💊 Write down every medication you take — name, dosage, pharmacy. This is the single most important step when comparing plans.

61 years ago — July 30, 1965 — President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare into law at the Harry S. Truman Library in Independence, Missouri.

He signed it there on purpose. Twenty years earlier, Harry Truman was the first president to push for national health insurance for older Americans, and Congress said no. So LBJ brought the bill to him. Truman became the very first person to enroll in Medicare that day, and Bess Truman was right behind him.

Before Medicare, about half of Americans over 65 had no health coverage at all. Today more than 68 million people rely on it — including thousands of our neighbors right here in the Lehigh Valley.

That history is exactly why we do this work. Medicare is one of the great promises made to people who spent a lifetime working, and it deserves to be explained honestly, not sold. Proud to say we’re expanding more and more every day. Now we’re helping independent agents/agencies exit the business and retire by purchasing their client lists and servicing those existing clients.

With his particular situation AnnMarie will stay on to handle customer service calls remotely during AEP for Hitcho Insurance Agency.
