PRESS RELEASE: Representatives from Albuquerque Housing Authority and Housing New Mexico attended the grand re-opening for the Veranda and La Plata Housing Communities in Albuquerque on Wednesday, celebrating the preservation of affordable housing inventory for the metro area. The event featured a grand opening for the Veranda Housing Community, as well as tours and an afternoon open house at La Plata Housing Community.

Located at 9000 Veranda, the updated 35-unit complex operates as an affordable public housing project.

The Housing New Mexico Board of Directors approved the following funding sources for Veranda Housing Community:
• Approximately $766,000 in 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credits annually, which – over a 10-year period – are expected to produce approximately
$7.1 million in cash equity.
• A $400,000 National Housing Trust Fund loan

With a total development cost of approximately $15.3 million, the property contains 12 2-bedroom units (average size 786 sq ft), 16 3-bedroom units (average size 934 sq ft), five 4-bedroom units (average size 1,117 sq ft), and two 5-bedroom units (average size 1,280 sq ft).

REMINDER A Request for Proposals (RFP) training session will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. MT both virtually and in person at Housing New Mexico, located at 7425 Jefferson St. NE in Albuquerque. We have an RFP available for our NM Energy$mart Multifamily Weatherization Assistance Program to provide services from 2027 to 2032.

Housing New Mexico operates the NM Energy$mart Program, a Weatherization Assistance Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and other funding sources through which service providers weatherize homes for income-eligible homeowners and renters, residing in either a single-family unit or a multifamily complex. This RFP is specifically for work performed on MULTIFAMILY developments.

Are you a contractor looking to make a meaningful impact in New Mexico?

Housing New Mexico | MFA is accepting Requests for Qualifications from general and trade contractors interested in providing home rehabilitation services through its Home Improvement Program. With up to $5 million in available funding, this program is dedicated to rehabilitating homes for low-income residents across the state.

Interested contractors can download the Request for Qualifications at https://housingnm.org/funding-opportunities/rfps-rfqs. While there is no deadline to apply, only approved contractors will have the opportunity to bid on identified rehabilitation projects.

Held Oct. 3-6 in Detroit, the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA) Annual Conference brought together housing finance agencies (HFAs) from across the country to discuss affordable housing challenges, share ideas and discuss solutions.

Housing New Mexico’s Chief Lending Officer Jeff Payne and Director of Communications and Marketing Kristie Garcia had the opportunity to present on how New Mexico is helping build a nation where everyone has access to affordable housing, including efforts to increase the supply of homes, homeownership, and much more.

Through advocacy and education, NCSHA supports the work of HFAs nationwide to expand access to affordable housing and serve those in need.

NCSHA, thank you for the wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow HFAs and hear so many great voices as Housing New Mexico, like many others, strives to provide fair and affordable housing opportunities for all, especially to underserved populations across the state.

On October 6, Housing New Mexico welcomed the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Assistant Secretary of Community Planning and Development, Ronald Kurtz, to tour multifamily developments supported by Housing New Mexico and City of Albuquerque with HUD funding. Staff from Housing New Mexico, alongside the HUD Regional Office and City of Albuquerque, addressed how New Mexico uses HUD funding to make a difference in local communities, specifically with the PAH! Hiland Plaza Apartments, Luminaria Senior Community, Farolito Senior Community, and Felician Villa I and II developments.

Housing New Mexico is grateful to HUD’s Office of Community Planning and Development for investing the time to visit New Mexico and a few of the properties in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho that it helped finance.

Powell and Housing New Mexico Board Member, State Treasurer Laura M. Montoya, participated in the panel “Policy Speaker Series: Advancing Economic Security Through Public Policy,” sharing perspectives on the critical role of affordable housing alongside other social programs in strengthening economic security for women and families. 🏠
