*So what's the most important function in a business!?*

All business functions are important but some are more critical than others. Today I want us to talk about one specific function that's very critical for a business to work and succeed.

_I have heard people say things like, I want to start a business that will not require my presence at all, which is really a cool thing. If you can start up a business and have it work properly in your absence then it's surely great. Its the ideal situation for most however this is rarely the case in reality._

I have told you before businesses run on systems and individuals. You have to have some sorts of controls and balances. These controls are useless if not enforceable and this is where supervision comes in as one of the most critical functions in a business.

*_Let me share with you a quick story to further eleborate this. Last month I contracted a carpenter to do for me some work. I paid him 40% of the money upfront to show commitment. A month later when I went to check on him there was nothing done.Totally nothing at all yet we'd agreed on a 30 day delivery period._*

This past week I took it upon myself to check on him daily and in one week he's done way more than he did in 30 days.Actually the work should be done mid next week. The fact that I check on him every day literally supervising him got him doing what he was supposed to do much more deligently.

*You may have the most skilled employees, the most efficient systems but if there's no oversight/supervision the systems my fail to deliver the necessary or expected results. Having systems without oversight is like have laws without police to enforce them.*

Even when you don't want to appear at your business try to every once in a while just to supervise what's being done. Don't totally neglect the business make sure you have your oversight function rock solid. If you can't do it yourself spend money to have some one/people else do it and still keep tabs whenever you can.
