Crosspoint Volunteer Forum

Crosspoint Volunteer Forum Crosspoint Volunteer Forum is a platform focusing on volunteering and NGOs, and how they can contribute to international understanding and peace-building.

The first Crosspoint Volunteer Forum conference and networking event was held on January 13, 2015 in Malmö Rådhus (Sweden). We welcomed inspiring speakers and local NGOs from the Öresund area. It was the initiator to establish a forum for information, exchanges, discussions and networking. Our theme & guidline is "Think Global, Act Local". The aims of our forum and events are:

- To point out that

financial support is not the only way to get involved and work for a good cause: What can be accomplished on a limited budget and how to do it.

- To show people the easy access of NGOs and volunteering tasks: Volunteering abroad is important but it is also important with volunteering ‘close to home’

- To inspire people to take action: Lack of knowledge is not as much of a problem in our society as passivity

- To promote the practical experience one gets from volunteer work and show how that can be relevant careerwise: Volunteer work can teach skills & objectives

- To show how the voluntary sector can contribute to international understanding and peacebuilding processes by promoting humanitarian values and social inclusion

Hej hej!
As most of you have probably witnessed, we are confronted with an increasing extent of (public) discourses about conflicts / peace, immigration / integration and security / intervention due to a diversity of erupting or ongoing conflicts, tensions and instabilities in various regions and countries in the world. To integrate peaceful solutions in such complex and violent environments, it requires promoting fields of dialogues, sustainability, situational awareness and in-depth local knowledge (to name just a few aspects).

We want to introduce you to the concept of »Safer Yemen«.
Beside the fact that "Safer Yemen" is not a NGO or volunteer organization, as it is the focus of this forum, it is interesting to put an eye on the approaches and strategies of the solutions for sustainable security, which this company suggests and implements:

"Our approach to security is based upon sustainability and combines situational awareness and pro-active risk management with capacity building to enable organizations and companies to effectively mitigate security risks." - Safer Yemen

Innovation and creativity are crucial and necessary in relation to peace-building processes in a constantly changing world. Visit the website of "Safer Yemen" and read about their projects, ethics and strategies.

Good day! It has been a while since the last post and a lot of things have happened in the world, which concern(ed) our work and intentions here at the Crosspoint Volunteer Forum. Especially now, it is time to discuss, talk, exchange, network and get ENGAGED!!!

Reminder:
As the Crosspoint Volunteer Forum is a platform focusing on volunteering and NGOs, and how they can contribute to international understanding and sustainable peace-building, it is our intention to promote humanitarian values and social inclusion & inspire people to take action: “Lack of knowledge is not as much of a problem in our society as passivity”.

"When you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression!" – This quote has a great meaning/background regarding various political and social -events, -movements and environments on a global and local scale, the so called Refugee Crisis, as one current example.

One can observe the rise of opinions and public demands, which fall under the category of nationalist, racist, xenophobic bodies of thoughts, as an reaction on certain politics, migration, security-issues, conflicts and many more factors (as we see many movements, such as PEGIDA in Germany).

In a forum, as the Crosspoint Volunteer Forum, we promote to approach such problems and conflicts from a certain distance, by understanding the global/international relation and circumstances to receive a bigger image of the causes, which facilitates the counteractions of the root problems – causal research – cause study!
As the name of this Forum contains “Crosspoint”, it is to emphasize the focus on a multilayered or global understanding, which crosses and includes every possible factor causing certain conflicts.
There are plenty of NGO’s, other organizations or projects, which are directly concerned with such efforts to gain publicity and attention to focus on sustainability, inclusion, innovation and creativity in regard to counteract the root-problems of conflicts and promote peace-building:

RISE - Research for Inclusive and Sustainable Education

TFF-Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research

Stay active and take care,
