One of the story shared by world stage Taiwanese speaker:
He’s My Good Friend”
He’s my good friend.
When I first joined the insurance industry, I never brought it up to him.
I didn’t want him to think I was using our friendship to make money.
So I stayed silent.
Years passed. He got married.
I congratulated him with all my heart—he and his wife were a perfect match.
But even then, I held back.
I didn’t ask if they had protection, didn’t suggest a simple plan they could afford.
Because I didn’t want to make things awkward.
So I stayed silent.
Then one day, he became a father—twins.
I celebrated with him, laughing, cheering, overwhelmed with joy.
Because I knew how much raising kids costs.
And he didn’t know.
Because I had never told him.
Now, every time I see him stress over their future,
every time I see him give up something so his children don’t have to,
I wonder… what if I had spoken up?
He is my good friend.
But I failed to protect him.
And that’s a silence I’ll never forget.
He’s my good friend.
Six months after he bought his new house, I was invited to his housewarming party.
I thought about suggesting he take a life insurance policy—
Not to sell, but to protect that home he worked so hard for.
But I held back. I didn’t want to burden him.
So I said nothing.
He’s my good friend.
Yesterday, in a typhoon, he lost control of his car.
The crash… took his life.
Now, I sit with his wife—my tears falling with hers.
Her eyes filled with fear about raising their son alone.
Their mortgage. Their future.
And in that silence, something screams inside me:
If I had opened my mouth…
If I had offered that policy…
Would he still think:
“You were my good friend”…?
⸻
Because being a real friend means protecting more than the present.
It means helping guard the future—even when it’s uncomfortable.
