Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant, Singapore's first hydrogen-compatible combined cycle power plant, commenced commercial operations today.

The fully contracted 600MW power plant increases Keppel’s power capacity by about 45%, bolstering its recurring income and strengthening its strategic position in Singapore’s power market amid growing demand for reliable, future-ready power infrastructure, alongside the heightened focus on energy security and resilience.

Capable of co-combusting up to 30% hydrogen and natural gas at the onset, the plant can also be modified to run entirely on low-carbon hydrogen as hydrogen supply chains mature over time. The facility incorporates advanced technology and design features that make it one of the most energy-efficient power plants in Singapore.

At Keppel, sustainability goes beyond our own operations, and includes encouraging the adoption of best ESG practices among suppliers in our value chain.

Since 2022, we have been supporting our suppliers’ sustainability efforts by conducting Carbon Management Workshops in partnership with the UN Global Compact Network Singapore. We brought together more than a dozen Keppel suppliers, including SMEs, this week, for an interactive and practical training programme in carbon management and decarbonisation strategies.

These workshops equip suppliers with the knowledge and tools to measure and track their carbon emissions – empowering them to take meaningful steps on their own sustainability journeys. We also shared Keppel’s sustainability priorities and supply chain policies, including our Green Procurement Guidelines introduced last year.

Keppel is also a pioneering Enterprise Queen Bee in the newly launched Green 100, a national movement to help businesses accelerate sustainability adoption and unlock green growth opportunities. We are pleased to play our part in efforts to build green capabilities and support our SME suppliers in their transition.

Keppel is collaborating with TATA Power to deploy a large-scale Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) solution at Intellion Park in Chennai, located in Taramani’s IT corridor.

With a total installed capacity of 12,100 tonnes of refrigeration, the CaaS solution is expected to reduce the park’s overall energy consumption by about 20% while enhancing system reliability and sustainability.

Together with our partners, we’re establishing a scalable, performance-driven CaaS model to support India’s growing cooling demand and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon built environment.
