The CBOE VOLATILITY INDEX (VIX)

How do you know what’s the broad market sentiments now?

VIX, A.K.A. the Wall Street Fear gauge have been used as a real time index, representing a 30 day relative strength projection of price changes in the US S&P 500 index

Generally, a number >20 signifies higher market volatility and investors are more wary.

What’s the VIX now? Is it as high as during the peak of Covid, in March 2020?

You would be surprised its at ~26 as of today, as compared to a peak of 85.49 on March 16, 2020.

Should you Buy, Hold or Sell though? Read on to find out more!!

I am pleading guilty. I am a victim of Sleep Revenge!! 😴💤

A couple of months back, one of my good friends introduced me to the term "Sleep Revenge" and I completely didn't know that was a thing. 🤔

I thought he made that up. So I asked him what does it mean?

That was when I realised what I have been doing (more often) ever since the entire Covid-19 (sadly, still ongoing) saga happened was actually "Sleep Revenge"

Sleep Revenge -- Describes the decision to sacrifice sleep for leisure time that is driven by a daily schedule lacking in free time

I used to feel guilty of doing it, LIKE WHY AM I NOT SLEEPING though I tell myself in the Morning, that I am dead tired. 😩😪

But I subsequently realised that, it is PERFECTLY FINE, and I shouldn't feel guilty.

We juggle between multiple roles during the day, as a Student, Working Adult, Colleague, Child, Boyfriend/ Girlfriend and the list goes on and on..

If sacrificing a bit of sleep gives me happiness, in that I finally have a pocket of time at night where there are no more disturbances (Projects, Work, Emails..) Why not? 😆

Do what makes you Happy, and no two individuals are the same, we can't expect everyone to Wake up at 5am, Sleep at 10pm.. right?

Your Income Dictates Your Lifestyle

The result of slogging hard at School for close to 15 years for most of us, is to finally move on to the next phase of life.

Entering the Workforce!

We start to earn an Income, and are finally able to start our path to become financially independent.

Our Income provides us an opportunity to choose the exact kind of lifestyle and standard of living that we desire.

Type of food, home, car, clothes, vacations.

Similarly, without an Income, all this would not be possible.

Hence, our Standard of living is dependent on 2 things.

1. Our earning ability
2. The depth of our bank account

Everything in life can remain as rosy at it seems.

As a working adult, have you thought of what happens if you lose your earning ability overnight?

Have you prepared sufficiently for these scenarios?

Critical Illness. Total & Permanent Disability. Death.

Or would you be leaving your family in financial distress, with their desired lifestyle in shambles when the Income you once earn for the family, is gone?

One of the GREATEST joys of being an Adult, is having access to “Adult Money” a.k.a. Monthly Income. 💰

Our level of Income dictates our kind of lifestyle. 🍣🛥🏖📖🏡🧥

It gives us the opportunity to purchase Food, Shelter, Clothing and Experiences like Vacations, as Marie Kondo says "Sparks Joy". ✨😊

And as any other human being, it is natural for us to carry on living our best lives without pausing and think, what happens if I stop receiving Income overnight?

Because heck, for the past 20, 30, 40, 50 years of our lives, nothing has ever happened to me! 💪🏼

3 months is okay, how about for a year, or two, or five? ⏳

Or worse still, FOREVER! Because you are either no longer able to work or around to support those who are dependent on you, your Family. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Just think about it. 💭

What have you been actively doing to protect your Income? 🤔

3 Greatest Fears We Have Subconsciously

As working adults, especially those of us whom have just stepped into the work force, it might not be a stone throw away.

Occasionally we will have flashes through our minds, “AHHHH how good would it be, if I can enjoy round the world vacations, shopping, gifting, dining out or even just spending my days lazing away” 😌🤪🤩

But, what IF life just doesn’t unravel or allow you to enjoy like how you planned out? Have you ever thought of that?

28,000 – A Figure that you shouldn’t forget!

& Here’s why!

We have an average life span of 28,000 days, which is approximately 80 years!

80 years sounds like a really long time but its definitely not! Just think about how fast time has passed, can you imagine you are currently __ now?

With 80 years, we go through 4 different stages in our lives! Studying, Working, More Slogging, AHHH finally.. its time to rest and relax (Retirement). 🛳🗺

But, taking a step back, do you realise that, we will only be receiving active income during half of our lifetime?

Coincidentally, thats the period where we have the largest financial commitments, 🏡🚘👨‍👩‍👧‍👦📖 also, the period where we spend the most because of our purchasing power. 💰🛍🛒

With your financial goals & what you have been doing to manage your finances, how well do you think you will be able to retire by your desired age? 😄🛳🍹🕶✈️

Here’s a simple exercise:
1. Take your current salary/ expected graduate salary
2. Multiply that by 20 years/ 240 months
3. Multiply that again by 75%

^ That is the amount you will need to have saved up, if you decided to retire today, and maintain similar standard of living for the next 20 years!!! 🙂
