Sindh Madressatul Islam is one of the oldest modern Muslim educational institutions in South Asia. on was possible through generous financial help from the people of Sindh through donations, contributions from the rulers of Muslim princely states, notably Khairpur Mirs, Hyderabad (Deccan) and Junagadh, in addition to liberal grants provided by the British government. Since its inception, Sindh Madressah has produced the persons of rare talent who played pivotal role in leading the people in the history of this region. Prominent among them were Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto, Sir Abdullah Haroon, Sir Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah, Mohammed Ayub Khuhro, Shaikh Abdul Majeed Sindhi, Allama I.I. Brohi, Kazi Khuda Bakhsh, Kazi Fazalullah, Justice Tufail Ali Abdul Rehman, Hassan Ali Abdul Rehman, Allama Ali Khan Abro, Mohammed Hashim Gazdar, Miran Mohammed Shah, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Ali Ahmed Brohi, Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo, Cricketer Hanif Mohammed, Justice (Retd) Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, Justice Syed Wajihuddin Ahmed and many more like them. The campus of Sindh Madressah is spread over eight and a half acres of land in the most prestigious part of Karachi. It is located between I.I. Chundrigar Road and Shahra-e Liaquat, just behind Habib Bank Plaza. The SMI complex consists of eight buildings, all of which, except the newly constructed Madar-e-Millat House are more than one century old. At present, there are three academic blocks in the SMI: the Main Building, the Talpur House and the Madar-e-Millat House. The Main Building
The foundation stone of the Main Building was laid by the then Viceroy of India Lord Dufferin in 1887 and was designed by architect of the Karachi Municipality, Mr. James Strachan. Presently, this building houses the College section, science laboratories, Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium, Allama Iqbal Computer Centre and administration offices. Talpur House
This majestic building was built in July 1901. At present, it houses technical section on its ground floor and secondary section for boys on the rest of its two floors. Madar-e-Millat House
This is one of the most recent building, which was constructed in 1997 and it houses the girls’ secondary section and primary section on two of its floors. Besides these blocks, three more buildings belonging to SMI namely Hassanally House (built in 1909), Khairpur House (built in 1912) and Sardar House (built in 1919), which served as hostels of the institution are at present with the Government of Sindh for running S.M. Science College. Since its inception, Sindh Madressah has served the people of this region in the realm of education with distinction. It is continuing its role even to this day and is considered as one of the excellent educational institutions in Pakistan
