Building connections starts with listening.

At the beginning of the year, Hublag Microfinance Inc. Panay Link introduced the project to 8 fisherfolk associations and conducted courtesy calls with 5 participating municipalities in the .

These early conversations were an important step in understanding local realities, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that communities remain at the center of the project’s direction moving forward.

Panay LINK believes that sustainable coastal development is built through collaboration — connecting livelihoods, inclusive markets, and nature-positive futures alongside the people who know these waters best.

More community engagements and consultations will continue throughout the project as Panay LINK expands its groundwork across partner coastal communities.

This , we highlight the work that we do in Panay LINK Philippines as we support coastal communities in building livelihoods that work with nature, not against it.

Through COAST, we are helping build practical pathways for nature-positive aquaculture, women-led processing, market access, and inclusive finance.

The goal is simple but important: help fisherfolk and coastal communities earn better incomes while protecting and restoring the marine ecosystems they depend on.

Proud to be part of the COAST Facility Philippines, a UK-funded programme supporting healthier coastal ecosystems and stronger blue economies.

More work ahead, but also more reasons to keep showing up for our oceans and coastal communities.

Follow the work that we do on Facebook (Panay LINK Philippines) and LinkedIn (Panay Link).

Panay LINK is rooted in years of field experience.

Long before the initiative took shape, Hublag Microfinance Inc. had already been working with coastal communities across Western Visayas—understanding local realities, testing approaches, and identifying practical ways to support small producers.

In Pilar Bay, through earlier donor-funded initiatives, Hublag partnered with Capiz State University,(CAPSU) and local fisherfolk groups to pilot market-based interventions. These included organizing producers, extending working capital tied to actual purchase orders, and introducing simple systems for product tracking and quality-based pricing.

The work was not without challenges, but real transactions took place and small producers gained clearer pathways to engage the market on better terms. The experience also highlighted the importance of strong financial management, careful fund handling, regular monitoring, and accountability systems that sustain programs over time.

As Panay LINK moves forward, it builds on lessons already tested and refined in the field—grounded in experience, informed by communities, and strengthened through practice.

Panay LINK is funded by the COAST Facility Philippines, part of the wider Climate and Ocean Adaptation and Sustainable Transition Programme funded by the UK Government, led by DAI and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

Panay LINK brings these together by working with communities and partners to strengthen nature-positive aquaculture, improve market access, and support local enterprises. The initiative helps coastal communities increase incomes, reduce losses, and capture more value from their harvests. 🤝

Supported by the Government of the United Kingdom through the COAST Facility Philippines, part of the wider Climate and Ocean Adaptation and Sustainable Transition Programme, led by DAI and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Panay Link advances solutions that benefit both people and nature. 🌱
