While they were enjoying the game, Arch. Boy Surla said, "Why don't we let other members of the construction industry join as well?"
There was no joint golf club for the engineers and architects way back then. The Architects Golf Club was founded in 1985 by Arch. Jose "Boy" Del Rosario, together with the Executive Engineer of Shell Philippines, Engr. Pax Lapid, former Wetherkote Manager. Arch. De
l Rosario suggested to Arch. Surla that he wanted those practicing Architects and Engineers become members in one elite club with this guiding motto in mind: MISSION - COMPASSION for the NEEDY. Del Rosario was so passionate about it that he put his heart and soul to the organization, and made it sure that all proceeds of the club's yearly tournament would go to charity. To complete the Architect's circle, and help organize the club, Arch. Bert Nuke was invited to the first meeting, and he eventually became the 1st President of A&E Golfers Club in 1993. These two "Boys" were instrumental in inviting another "Boy", in the person of Engr. Boy Sy, who happens to be the best structural engineer. The three big "Boys" in the industry brought together the best practitioners in the engineering field namely: Engrs. Mar Alix & Lino Rivera (Electrical), Engr. Larry Punsalan (Mechanical), and Engr. Noel Franco (Sanitary). Credit goes to Arch. Gene Flancia who designed the new club logo. Thus, The Architects & Engineers Golf Club came into being with the 1st Tournament held in November of the same year at TAT FILIPINAS in San Pedro, Laguna. There is fun in golf. There is more fun whenever the best men in the construction industry gather the benefit of the less fortunate members of the society. Passion towards works, coupled with compassion and love to the needy, definitely make this group a cut above the rest.
