Learnings from Chinkee Tan’s “Term vs VUL” webinar:

Term Insurance
Pros:
-> Mura
-> Good for starting families na mababa ang budget
-> Because mura, you free up excess funds. You have flexibility in where you want to invest your excess funds.

Cons:
-> Madaling maglapse (within 30 days)
-> Hindi permanent (usually until 70yo lang ang insurance coverage, and sobrang mahal na ng premiums non dahil nagiincrease every 5 yrs ang premiums)
-> Filipinos aren’t disciplined in making investments (so kahit insured sila sa term, hindi masyadong lumalaki MF/investments nila kasi nakakalimutan nila mag invest)

VUL Insurance:
-> You automate your investment (part of becoming rich is “automation”; meaning, automatic nang naitatabi ang pera for investment; based on Filipinos’ money mentality, mas maigi ang automatic kaltas tulad ng SSS, Philhealth and Pag-ibig; same thing with investments; kung hindi automatically nakakaltas ang savings sa income ng most Filipinos, wala silang savings; what’s good with VUL is: habang nagbabayad ka ng VUL (for insurance), may automatic na din siyang investment na naitatabi; works best for Filipinos)
-> tax free
-> hindi madaling maglapse, compared sa term

———————

Simple comparison:

Financial Lessons Learned During this Pandemic:

(I just wanna share this, just in case someone has the same realizations or someone might really need this right now and please add if you have some important ones that I might have missed.) 😘

1. SALARY IS FINITE BUT EXPENSES ARE INFINITE. Start looking for side hustles and other means of income. Don’t just rely on your monthly salary. It won’t be enough especially if you don’t know how to do #2.) 😊

2. LEARN TO BUDGET. Budgeting is everything. It’s like telling your money where to go instead of thinking where it went. Make use of those envelop system or calendar method for finances. 🤔

3. EMERGENCY FUND IS A MUST. Enough for 6 months of your monthly expenses. This fund will definitely help you in times of crisis just like this. Pandemic or Zombie apocalypse is definitely an emergency! 😌

4. AUTOMATE WHAT YOU CAN. Take advantage of mobile banking. It really helps especially when you know you cant go out of the house. So go now and download those mobile banking apps.😉

5. BE DEBT FREE. If you can’t pay in cash, it means you cant’t afford it in the first place and let’s admit it, that monthly SOA is sometimes nerve wracking. Nothing beats peace of mind! 😰

6. AVOID BUYING THINGS YOU DON’T NEED. Don’t give in to sales and discounts. When you buy things you don’t need you will end up selling things that you have. Just like me now, selling my almost unused clothes. 🤫

7. LIST, LIST,LIST. Now is the the best time to start making lists. List down items before going to the supermarket to save both time and money. 🤗

8. LIVE BELOW YOUR MEANS. Pretending to be rich can make you poor. Don’t give in to peer pressure or temptations. You must act your wage. 🤣

9. MONEY IS NOT EVERYTHING but money can make you live comfortably. Yes, money can’t buy happiness but money can definitely buy things that can make you happy. 🤑

10. SAVE MONEY and MONEY WILL SAVE YOU. Don’t save what is left after spending instead set aside a certain amount every month and then spend what is left. (Salary-Savings=Expenses) 😌

SUN SMARTER Life ELITE Peso 5/10 and VUL 🙂

Ano ang Sun Smarter Life Elite Peso 5/10?
Ito ay 5/10 year payment whole life insurance na merong GUARANTEED Cash Value and merong Guaranteed Anticipated Endowment Benefit.

Nagbibigay si Sun Life ng 8% GUARANTEED Cash Benefit on 6th year of the policy, and every other year thereafter until age 100.

Ano daw?
Magbibigay si Sunlife ng guaranteed 8% ng face amount on 6th year of the policy kada 2 taon ang pagbigay hanggang tumanda ka until age 100. Diba ang ganda, may pension ka until you reach age 100.

Ano ang PROS ng Sun Smarter Life Elite 5/10:
✅ Double ang face amount upon death of the insured
✅ Meron syang GUARANTEED 8% na endowment benefit
✅ Meron kang dividend (not guaranteed, projected 3%)
✅ Great for child's educational fund from 0 to 10 years old
✅ May paying period na 5 years or 10 years
✅ Merong Accidental Death at Total Disability Benefit

🙂 🙂 🙂
For example if you have
1,000,000 face amount..
8% is 80,000

Child: 0 year old

6th year : 80,000 + dividends
8th year: 80,000 + dividends
10th year: 80,000 + dividends
12th year: 80,000 + dividends until 100 years old 🙂 🙂 🙂
Just do the math 😊

Eh paano kung 2,000,000 face amount
8% is 160,000 + dividend on the 6th year, 2 years thereafter until age 100 🙂 🙂 🙂

*** The lowest face amount allowed is Php 200,000
***Pwede mong ipunin ang pera and leave it to accumulate
***Kahit saan pwede mong paggamitan ang pera (House & Lot, Travel Goals, Kids’ Education, Retirement, etc.) It’s YOUR money 🙂
*** You can use the money as pension

Eh paano naman ang VUL:
✅ Perfect for maliit/ sakto lang ang budget, it's an affordable plan for everyone (Depending on your capabilities and needs, talk to me know more)
✅ Flexible ang payment period
✅Okay sa long term investing
✅ Mas affordable kesa sa Elite 🙂

Happy Learning!

Useful Money Saving Tips

1. Plan to Save

Make yourself a budget that you can stick with and gradually increase on saving more. For starters, try to make a habit of saving at least 20% of your monthly income for emergency funds in case of a rainy day. Be cautious on where you spend your earnings and identify non-essentials that you can spend less on such as entertainment and subscriptions.

2. Build an Emergency Fund

Having some extra cash in case of unfortunate events can make all the difference. You should at least aim to save around 6 months of your monthly salary so you have something to fall back in case of getting fired or having to stop work. For example, if you make $2000 per month, it's a good thing to set a short term goal to have $12,000 as an emergency fund. Note that these are for emergencies only, mainly in cases where you could be suffering from a loss of income and help with your living expenses for the time being.

3. Keep Track of Your Expenses

Record every time you earn and spend money. Be it for paying for your monthly rent or that carton of milk you bought, make a habit of listing all your financial transactions. Consider downloading financial tracker apps that can help with your daily tracking. Some apps even let you categorize your spending and see a monthly overall chart. Knowing where your money goes and how much you have left with is crucial for sticking with a budget.

4. Plan and Prioritise

When you know where your income is spent, it will be easier for you to identify your priorities. Make short term and long term saving goals so you can have a clear idea of where to start saving. However, never let short term goals (saving up for a car's down payment) disturb your long-term goals (your retirement plan).
