“Insurance Coverage People Often Misunderstand”
#6: Can You Claim from Two or More Health Insurance Policies for the Same Illness?
Can you receive benefits from multiple insurance policies for the same critical illness diagnosis?
Yes! If you have two or more critical illness insurance policies, you may claim from each eligible policy, provided the diagnosed illness is covered and all applicable claim conditions are met.
Unlike critical illness insurance, which generally provides lump-sum benefits, HMO and medical insurance plans primarily cover eligible healthcare expenses and may have coordination-of-benefits requirements.
In this episode, Denise and Christine discuss the differences among the three layers of health protection:
1. HMO – For eligible consultations, laboratory tests, outpatient services, and hospitalization.
2. Medical Insurance – For eligible medical and hospitalization expenses, often with higher coverage limits.
3. Critical Illness Insurance – Provides a lump-sum benefit upon a qualifying diagnosis, helping with treatment, recovery, and other financial needs.
Insurance helps protect not only your health-related finances but also the savings you’ve worked hard to build.
As we conclude Episode 36, here’s an important reminder: Having insurance is good, but understanding how your coverage works is even better.
When was the last time you reviewed all your health protection policies?
Benefits, claim eligibility, waiting periods, survival periods, and coordination rules depend on the applicable policy.
