BATAAN-CAVITE INTERLINK BRIDGE: A MILESTONE IN INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) board has approved a US$4-billion budget for the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge Project.
The Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge (BCIB) project will provide a permanent road link between the provinces of Bataan and Cavite, the key missing link in the road network of the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, and CALABARZON. The BCIB will be approximately 32.15 km long, comprising two cable-stayed bridges for navigation channels, 24km of marine viaducts, and 8km of approach roads. It will include a U-Turn facility near Corregidor Island for future connection.
Under the BCIB project, a capacity-building program will be provided for the government to ensure adequate capacity in the operation and maintenance, and management of the BCIB and future large and complex bridges. A tourist center and supporting facilities will be established at the north approach of BCIB, providing information about the rich ecosystem and diversity of destinations on the Bataan Peninsula and Corregidor Island.
With improved connectivity between these regions, businesses will have easier access to markets and resources, leading to increased trade and investment. This will create jobs, boost local economies, and improve the overall quality of life for residents in these areas.
Additionally, the bridge will facilitate tourism and promote cultural exchange between different regions, further enhancing the social and economic development of the Philippines as a whole. Overall, the bridge will serve as a vital link between Metro Manila and its neighbouring provinces, driving progress and prosperity for years to come.
