Seafarers Reportedly Offered Up to USD 60,000 in Bonuses for High-Risk Voyages Near Strait of Hormuz | MARINO PH

Reports circulating online indicate that some shipowners are offering substantial bonuses to seafarers assigned to vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz or calling at Iranian ports for cargo loading and unloading operations amid continuing security concerns in the region.

A high-risk bonus schedule obtained by MARINO PH shows proposed payments ranging from USD 20,000 to nearly USD 60,000, depending on rank. The document lists USD 58,851.50 for a master, USD 55,000 for a chief engineer, and USD 20,000 each for ratings and cadets.

The reported payments are believed to reflect the risks associated with operating in waters exposed to potential attacks, military tensions, and other maritime security threats.

While special financial incentives may encourage seafarers to accept high-risk assignments, shipowners remain responsible for crew safety and compliance with applicable employment agreements. The reported amounts should not be interpreted as standard compensation rates across the maritime industry.
