To ensure our cars remain in top condition even during the quarantine, we must give them proper care. Here are some ways to do it:

1. Start the engine every couple of days, or at least once a week, to charge the battery. If possible, plug the battery into a charger.

2. Check the tires weekly to make sure these have the recommended tire pressure. This way, the car can be driven when you need it most.

3. Keep all fluids—coolant, engine oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, windshield washer—are at optimum levels.

4. To lessen the chances of oxidation in the tank, fill it with fuel.

5. Now is the best time to thoroughly clean the car inside and out. When it is completely dry, place it under a fitted car cover to protect it from the elements.

These tips should make your car ready to roll, especially in cases of emergency.

Frequent hand-washing and observing personal hygiene help keeps you from contracting COVID-19. But this summer, conserve water, too. Here are some tips on how to do this:

1. Check your house plumbing for leaks and have these repaired as soon as it is safe to do so.

2. Turn off the shower when it is not yet time to rinse.

3. Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth.

4. Collect used water and repurpose it for toilet flushing or to water the plants.

5. Only wash full loads on your washing machine and try to use the shortest cycle.

6. Use a bucket and dipper to clean the car and to water the plants instead of a hose.

1. Ensure appliances are switched off or unplugged when not in use.

2. Regularly check for faulty electrical equipment and have them repaired as soon as possible. In the meantime, try not to use them.

3. Avoid having too many electrical appliances plugged on the same outlet.

4. Never leave any food cooking or baking unattended.

5. Have a working fire extinguisher accessible.

6. Keep the house tidy and orderly so fire hazards can be minimized.
