📚 TEACHERS TO BECOME TOP-PAID PUBLIC SERVANTS

Prime Minister James Marape has announced that teachers will soon rank among the highest-paid public servants in Papua New Guinea, reinforcing the government's commitment to improving education standards nationwide.

The announcement, made on 31 May 2026, follows directives issued by the Prime Minister regarding teachers' welfare and working conditions across the country.

Mr. Marape emphasized that investing in teachers is critical to delivering quality education, strengthening the nation's future workforce, and ensuring students receive the best possible learning opportunities.

The United States Government has committed US$30 million to support satellite internet connectivity across Papua New Guinea, bringing hope for better communication services in rural and remote communities.

Acting ICT Minister Hon. Peter Tsiamalili Jr. welcomed the announcement following the second United States–Papua New Guinea Strategic Partnership Dialogue, describing it as a timely and practical investment for the country’s digital future.

The funding is expected to improve internet access for remote schools, health facilities, disaster centres, and communities that continue to face major connectivity challenges due to geography and limited infrastructure.

The project will also help expand access to: ✅ Education
✅ Healthcare
✅ Economic opportunities
✅ Global digital markets
✅ Emergency & disaster response services

“For Papua New Guinea, satellite internet can help bridge the connectivity gap for rural and remote communities where geography, cost and infrastructure challenges remain significant,” Hon. Tsiamalili stated.

This initiative marks another major step towards digital transformation and improving communication services nationwide.

🚨 MOTHER’S DAY TRAGEDY IN KEREMA 💔

While many families across Papua New Guinea celebrated Mother’s Day with love, laughter, and togetherness, one family in Central Kerema is mourning the heartbreaking loss of a mother, wife, and daughter.

Reports state that a domestic argument between a young couple in KP–Melaripi LLG turned violent late Saturday night, resulting in the tragic death of a woman while being transported to Kerema General Hospital. The suspect is now in police custody.

This is not love.
This is violence against women.

No woman deserves abuse, fear, or violence in her own home. Mothers, wives, daughters, and sisters deserve respect, protection, and dignity.

As men, true strength is shown through patience, self-control, and respect — not anger and violence.

Let this tragedy be a wake-up call for all communities across PNG: 🛑 STOP violence against women
🤝 RESPECT women
🕊️ PROTECT life

To the grieving family and relatives, PNG Happenings sends our deepest condolences and prayers during this difficult time. 🙏💔
