UoG Tution Fee To Stay: University chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb, University of Goroka
There will be no changes in school fees for the University of Goroka next year, the university council has announced.
University chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb told the Post-Courier that the university council had met in Mount Hagen last week and made the decision that there would be no changes in school fees next year.
“There will be no increase or decrease for self-sponsors, HECAS or AES students tuition fees,” he said.
Mr Sukwianomb said it is one of the important decision the university council has made in appreciating the fact that the country is facing economic problems.
“We don’t want to put a burden on the parents, because most of our students come from rural areas with parents being subsistence farmers and for that the council has decided to retain the 2019 fee level” he said.
Mr Sukwianomb said the university council wished to see the number of graduates increase every year.
“We are a leading university in providing in-service teaching programs for primary and secondary levels, and taking this decision to maintain the fee level is significant in this time of tough financial times,” he said.
The chancellor said at the university, they have smart ways in reconstructing the model and its infrastructure to allow the university to open up and connect with provinces and districts working on mindset exchange operations at the preparatory classes, kindergarten and standard one and two classes.
“With this important decision taken by the council with the support received from the provincial government and district development authorities, the university has confidence and trust to what has been done to reach out to more people who are seeking better lives and to improve the welfare and wellbeing of the people we serve in education,” he said.
