The Indian government has modernised its customs regulations by removing the monetary value cap on gold jewellery for returning NRIs. Female passengers can now carry up to 40 grams and male passengers up to 20 grams duty-free, focusing solely on weight rather than price. This change, alongside an increased general duty-free allowance of Rs75,000, aims to simplify travel and reduce delays at airports. The new rules provide significant clarity and relief for the Indian diaspora worldwide.
