Mōrena e te ‘macrame’ whānau.

I was scrolling and came across a couple of pics I haven’t yet shown y’all!

A wallhanging I made for a wahine who turned 30! The crisscrossed plait represents a corset cause ya know, beauty is pain. Personalised with a rose quartz for love, I think she’s a beaut. 😍

Ata mārie e te iwi! kua mutu ahau i hanga i rua nga rama taumarumaru. E miharo ana ēnei. Kei te harikoa ahau.

Good Morning virtual fams! I finished these 2 lamp shades and they’ve been delivered to their owner. Happy to say she was stoked! The feeling of pouring my creative energy & love (so cliche😏) into my work to then have the recipient so humbled & grateful is all worth the creative blocks, the late nights & the time taken from my whānau (mentally, because physically I’m here but not coherent 😜). Also helps when they give you the time needed to create whilst not skimping on doing life, ya know what I mean?

So, as you can see I’m enjoying my reo journey! They say it takes about 3500 kupu in your word bank to speak fluently. Let’s just say I’ve got a ways to go, but every week there’s a breakthrough and those moments push me further into not only Te Reo, but Te Ao Māori. I was listening to a waiata i te ata nei, composed by Pania Papa and the last sentence is so powerful. Kia kaha tātou ki te korero maori. E Minaka ana is the waiata. Whakarongo mai ❤️

Tokoono ngā kōtiro 👧🏽

6 girls ready to go! They’re little giveaways at tomorrow nights fashion show at Be You in Palmy.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. I have been dedicating my time to learning Te Reo Māori, something that has always had a special place in my heart.

Now to manage my time so I can learn and still create. (And manage a home, be a wife, a mum, a teacher, an uber, and a chef...) 🤣

I’m currently in the process of creating 3 light shades for a friend of a friend of a friend! 😊
Luckily enough said friend isn’t on social media so I can post without her seeing.
YOU GUYS!!! These light shades are going to the most amazing whare, and I can’t wait to see them in their forever home! One down - 2 to go!
We have a scheduled power outage today 🤦🏽‍♀️ so it’s actually the perfect excuse to get stuck into #2.

I spent the morning repotting my rooted plant babies. 🪴 I’m slowly getting my creative space together. It’s in need of some paint & maybe ripping out some cupboards for extra space, but I’ll get there.

HOW I GOT HERE

Where to start? Firstly, in no way am I a writer so excuse my punctuation.

I found Macrame 2018 by stumbling across a piece that literally had me in awe. I wanted it, I wanted to make it, I HAD to try. Ive always loved art, in all forms. Ive done my fair share of paintings on canvas, I've knitted, sketched, crocheted, and now I knot. I guess Im a ‘jack of all trades, master of none’, and I’ll take that! “Having all these skills is such a bore”, said no-one ever! Haha. What stands out for me is, Macrame makes me feel good. It brings a sense of calm over me. I think of nothing but whats in front of me, and I could knot for hours on end.

In the beginning I brought inexpensive supplies e.g Jute & h**p cord. I knotted and knotted, creating some really cool pieces, but I wanted to make sure this was something that would ‘stick’. It has. I then jumped straight into ordering hmmm, 4 boxes of cotton cord in all sizes lol and the rest is history.

Fast forward to this present day I have quite a bit of finished wallhangings, bags, clutches, coasters & plant hangers waiting for their forever home. This is basically how I got here, like right now, here. Macrame is an expensive hobby to have (as are all hobbies), and there was really no other option but to start selling. It made total sense to me! I buy and create, sell and repeat! This way I can continue to do what I love and not burn a hole in my pocket while doing it! I didn't start making ‘to sell’, its kinda just happened, after all, how many wallhangings can one have in their house! LOL Luckily, Ive made a few sales this year which has given me some confidence that there are people out there who appreciate this art as much as I do!
