🚨 OCR UPDATE: The Reserve Bank has increased the Official Cash Rate by 25 basis points, taking it to 2.75%.

So, what does this mean for homeowners and borrowers?

The OCR influences the interest rates banks charge, meaning this increase could put upward pressure on mortgage rates.

The Reserve Bank’s decision comes as inflation sits at 4.1%, above its 1–3% target range. It expects inflation to return to the target band by mid-2027, with the 2% midpoint reached later next year.

The important part? The OCR path isn’t set in stone. Future decisions will depend on how inflation, employment and the wider economy evolve.

If you’re coming off a fixed rate, considering refinancing, or simply wondering what this means for your mortgage, now is a good time to understand your options.

🏠 First Home Buyers
This young couple came to see me to work on a plan to purchase their first home.
After discussing their goals and working through their deposit, income and expenses I was delighted to let them know we could make this happen now!
With a pre-approval in hand the clients were successful with their offer on a property they loved!
Today at just 22 & 24 they picked up the keys to their very own home 🙌🏼
Not only did we work through the home loan, we made sure the property was protected with house insurance and they are working through an application for life insurance. They understood the importance of protecting each other and making sure if something happens, they can remain in their home.
We also reviewed their KiwiSaver to make sure they are in the most suitable scheme to grow their fund for retirement.
