Ever had a team member head somewhere with zero mobile signal and just... hope they're okay until they're back in range?

That's the reality for a lot of remote workers, but it doesn't have to be anymore. Satellite-to-mobile technology means the phone in their pocket can now connect straight to satellites when the local network drops out, keeping safety check-ins and alerts working the whole time.

No extra gear, no satellite phones, just their normal smartphone doing a bit more than usual.

We put together a simple step-by-step guide on how to test this before you actually need it in a real emergency. Link's in the comments if you want to check it out ๐Ÿ‘‡

We're proud to share that GetHomeSafe is now SOC 2 Type 2 compliant! ๐Ÿ”’

Our audit was conducted by the team at Sensiba, proving that our security controls don't just exist on paper, they work consistently over time.

Our customers trust us with their people's safety. This certification is proof we take that responsibility seriously.

A huge milestone for our team. More on our blog (link in comments).

14 today! ๐ŸŽ‚

It all started on a mountain bike trail near Queenstown. Our founder Boyd was riding alone on rough terrain when he lost control and nearly went over the edge of a steep drop. As he caught his breath, one thought hit him, if I'd gone over, how long before anyone even knew where to look?

That question sparked a personal safety app built in a garage. Today, GetHomeSafe is a world-class safety platform protecting workers and teams across the globe.

And this birthday week brought a milestone of its own, SOC2 Type 2 compliance โœ…

From one app to a complete safety system. From a garage to the world. Same mission since day one: help people get home safe. ๐Ÿ

They protect wild places. Who protects them?

Today is World Ranger Day, 20 years of honouring the people who protect the planet's wild places.

Rangers work in remote terrain, often alone, hours from help. They face climate extremes, wildlife crime, and conditions most of us will never see. There are around 286,000 rangers worldwide safeguarding the protected places we love, and that number needs to grow to 1.5 million to meet global conservation targets.

Everyone deserves to make it home. It's the belief that started GetHomeSafe, and it's what today is about.

We're proud to work alongside teams like the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, helping keep the people who protect the Reef connected and safe, even beyond mobile coverage.

As the Reef Authority puts it: "We're enhancing safety through better systems, processes and education. That's why we're supporting Get Home Safe โ€” a tool designed to help our staff stay connected and safe."

To every ranger out there, thank you, and hereโ€™s to getting home safe at the end of every shift.

While most of us are asleep, security officers are out there keeping our communities, workplaces, and people safe. ๐Ÿ”ฆ

Night shifts, weekends, holidays, they don't clock off when the rest of us do. And they often do it alone, in the dark, out of sight.

This International Security Officers' Day, we're saying a big thank you to every officer who puts in the thankless hours.

At GetHomeSafe, we help security teams stay connected and protected, with automated check-ins, real-time location, SOS alerts, and more.

Satellite-to-mobile is a once-in-a-generation shift, and it's happening right now.

For years, remote workers beyond cell coverage either went dark or carried expensive, clunky satellite devices that were often a hassle for workers. That's over. The phone your team already carries can now connect directly to satellites when cell service drops out.

Check-ins, alerts, HomeSafe notifications, getting through from places that used to mean radio silence. And when satellite data is limited, GetHomeSafe's SMS fallback makes sure those critical safety messages are still delivered.

New Zealand has been at the forefront of this technology while rollouts across Australia, the US, Canada, Europe and beyond continue to pick up pace. We understand how this works in real conditions, not just in theory.

GetHomeSafe is proud to be leading the way with One NZ and Spark NZ for customers with compatible devices and plans.

The coverage gap is closing. Fast.

Mฤnawatia a Matariki!

As the stars of Matariki rise, we're reminded of what this time is really about: Matariki Hunga Nui, remembering those we've lost since the last rising of Matariki; Matariki Ahunga Nui, celebrating the present and gathering together to give thanks for what we have; and Matariki Manako Nui, looking ahead to the promise of the new year.

Wherever this long weekend takes you, we hope you're spending it safely with whฤnau and friends, taking the time to pause and reconnect.

For those still on the clock this weekend: take care out there. Whether you're working alone, in a remote location, or travelling, small, regular check-ins can make all the difference.

A missed check-in doesn't always mean something's gone wrong.

But if no one's actively watching for it, hours can pass before anyone realises.

For healthcare and community workers doing home visits, often alone, often after hours, often in rural areas, that silence is the single most common early warning sign that a visit hasn't gone to plan.

GetHomeSafe offers configurable risk assessments and profiles across low, dynamic, and high risk visits, so the safety response scales with the actual risk of the visit, not a one-size-fits-all check-in.

We looked at why most safety processes miss it, and what actually catches it.

Not all lone worker apps are built the same, and the gaps usually don't show up until something goes wrong.

Before you choose your next safety solution, here are 5 questions worth asking ๐Ÿ‘‡

โ†’ Is it one unified platform?
โ†’ Does it work where the cell towers don't?
โ†’ Is it actually easy to use?
โ†’ Can it flex to each task's risk?
โ†’ Does it escalate when no one responds?

The full checklist is free to download in the comments, every question to ask before you commit.

What an amazing couple of days! ๐Ÿ™Œ The GetHomeSafe team headed to Queenstown earlier this week for our 2026 team retreat, most of us drove from Dunedin, with a few flying in from Christchurch and Auckland.

We started with a lovely team lunch at Sunfire on the waterfront, then it was game on for the "GetHomeSafe Amazing Race" ๐Ÿ Teams raced to complete tasks and unlock clues, and the creativity (and competitiveness ๐Ÿ‘€) was next level. Red team even got the power to hand out a roadblock... sorry Blue team!

Green team finished fastest, but Yellow team took the overall trophy, their 88cm pasta-and-marshmallow tower was a sight to behold ๐Ÿ (cheers, Boyd). We celebrated with dinner at White & Wong's to close out Day 1.

Day 2 brought a team meeting full of exciting plans for the year ahead, and one last lunch in Frankton before we all hit the road home. Well fed, and excited for what's next! ๐Ÿš€
