Things go wrong in every business.

Wrong orders. Faulty products. Delays. Human error.

Most customers understand that.

What people remember is how they were made to feel when it happened.

It’s interesting how often businesses focus on the cost of fixing an issue… while missing the cost of losing trust altogether.

Big results don't come from one giant move.
They come from the small things we choose consistently.

That one email sent. One walk taken. One budget reviewed. One hard conversation had. One early night.

I often ask myself:

Would tomorrow Heidi thank me for this today?

And quite often the answer is no!
(Insert coffee after 4pm, that extra glass of vino tinto, one more episode… the list is endless.)

But awareness is half the battle, and it works in business, family, health, and life.

Small habits might feel boring in the moment (hello taxation planning), but they do build momentum (goodbye cashflow uncertainty).

As James Clear reminds us, habits are the compound interest of self-improvement.

So this Monday, don’t worry about doing everything.
Just do one thing today that makes tomorrow easier.

One thing I see all the time with business owners…

They’re flat out.
Busy every day.
Firefighting.
Solving problems.

It feels like progress, when really it can feel more like treading water.

Everything is happening *in* the business.
Yet very little time gets spent *on* it.

That’s where CFO support can really help.

Reviewing the numbers.
Setting direction.
Holding accountability.
Creating space for clearer thinking and better decisions.

A chance to lift your head up for a second, get a proper sense of what’s happening, and actually look at the bigger picture.

If your business needs that kind of support right now, let’s chat.

What’s actually happening in your business right now?

Not the highlight reel.
The real stuff.

That’s what the discovery calls are for.
No pressure. Just a proper conversation about where things are at.

In the boring bits.

The way things are tracked.
The way decisions are made.
What gets looked at regularly.

It’s not magic.
It’s just consistency.

That feeling when your business looks “fine” on paper…
but something still feels off?

Sales are good.
Work’s coming in.
You’re busy.

But there’s this underlying sense that things aren’t as solid as they should be.

Cash feels tight.
Decisions feel harder than they should.
You’re not quite sure what’s actually going on underneath it all.

That’s where this confusion sits.

Performing well doesn’t always mean you’re in a strong position.

And if you can’t see both clearly, it’s very easy to miss what actually needs attention.

Working capital is one of those things that doesn’t get much attention…

until it matters.

Work’s coming in.
Invoices are going out.
On paper, things look fine.

But the timing’s off.

Cash hasn’t landed yet.
Bills still need paying.

That gap is where the pressure sits.

And it’s also where most of the stress comes from.

If your business feels tighter than it should, this is usually part of it.

If you want to talk through what that looks like in your numbers, book a free chat.

My camera roll is full of photos of me swearing at jobs I didn’t want to do 😅

I used to think I had to do everything.
Now I know some things just aren’t my thing.

Growth, for me, has been learning what not to do myself so I’ve got more energy for what is.

For a lot of business owners, numbers fall into that category.

And that’s fine.

But as a business owner, you either:
Understand them
Or delegate them to someone you trust

You can’t run a successful business blind.

Book recommendation of the week!

Namaste Motherf*ckers by .beaton

Part leadership, part real life, part laugh-out-loud honesty.

Covers everything from building a business, navigating menopause, to not taking yourself too seriously along the way.

Thoroughly recommend.

That feeling when you look at your numbers and still don’t know what’s going on?

That’s a really common place to be.

You’re working hard.
Sales are coming in.
Money’s moving.

But it’s not clear if you’re actually doing well.

Or where things are leaking.

Or what needs attention.

So decisions get delayed.
Or made off gut feel.
Or avoided altogether.

That’s usually not about capability.

It’s about visibility.

And without that, business feels harder than it needs to.

I went to write “IDEAS” in a meeting today… and “IDAI” came out 😂

AI can tidy my writing.
Make me sound more polished.
Even cover my dyslexia.

But in real time?
It’s still just me.

But the human bits.
The messy bits.

That’s where the authenticity is.
That’s where connection happens.
That’s where the good stuff lives.

Polished is pretty.
But real builds trust.

Don’t forget to be yourself in business.
