VDM: “I’ve Been Called to Bar” — Responds to Claims He Was Unfit for NBA Conference
VeryDarkMan (VDM) has responded to the criticism surrounding his appearance at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference, pushing back against claims that he was not qualified to be present because he is not a lawyer.
Speaking in a dramatic courtroom-style presentation, VDM said the criticism appeared to have shifted attention away from the issues he originally wanted to raise, particularly the insecurity situation in Nigeria.
He questioned why the focus was on his presence at the conference rather than the concerns he raised about insecurity and people he believes may be benefiting from the situation.
VDM also challenged the argument that he was unfit to participate, stating that he had been “called to bar” and sarcastically referring to the lawyers as his “learned colleagues.”
VDM Defends His Presence
The social commentator maintained that the topic discussed at this year’s NBA conference made his participation relevant. He acknowledged that many Nigerians believed he should not have been at the event, but strongly disagreed with that position.
According to him, he believed he was particularly qualified to contribute to the conversation because of the subject being addressed.

VDM further defended his style of speaking, insisting that he did not insult anyone at the conference.
He maintained that he simply says things as he sees them and questioned what he had said that was wrong.
He also claimed that he had been wrongly profiled and accused of several things, appealing for help while continuing his courtroom-style performance.
A Serious Message Wrapped in Comedy
Although much of the presentation was delivered through exaggerated courtroom drama and humour, VDM's central argument remained clear: he believes the controversy over his appearance should not overshadow the substantive issues he wanted to discuss.
His remarks are likely to reignite debate over whether professional associations should restrict participation based strictly on professional credentials or allow wider voices to contribute when discussions involve major national issues.
