Have you ever wondered why you fail sometimes despite your best intentions?

You want something, but somehow you never manage to accomplish it?

Self-sabotage sets you up to fail in a number of ways.

Self Sabotage is when you subconsciously do things that prevent you from succeeding.

You know what to do but you simply do not do it anyway.

It is literally a fear of your own Success.

Why We Self-Sabotage?

Short answer - lack of self-esteem is the key reason, your ability to be yourself, handle adversity, and believe that you'll win through, despite setbacks.

It can be extremely damaging to your reputation and business.

Self-sabotage can manifest in many different ways in business.

You might 'forget' a deadline or put a meeting in your calendar.

Arguement or always wanting to be right all the time.

You might be consistently late to work, meeting, etc

You might procrastinate and put things off till last minute

You may start projects but never finish them

You feel 'unable' to proceed even when presented with the most desirable, exciting opportunity and come up with million excuses as to why you can't do it

You grind to a halt for no apparent reason when you are trying to achieve your goal

You might have a lot of negative self-talk going on - 'I can't do it' / 'What if I fail?!' etc

On a practical side of things, how does self-sabotaging behaviour can crop up in a business environment?

Here are 6 common triggers for you to look out for:

1. Not trying hard enough - giving up too easily when you hit an obstacle or don't get fast results.

2. Full of excuses- giving yourself excuses for lack of results, poor performance, etc or do something about it. In a typical Nigerian setting Some call it Village People dey do me Jazz or Juju🤔

Accountability is key.

3. Same old story - repeating the same actions over and over again that don’t bring you any results and still hoping it’s going to work this time, it is a waste of your time and effort. Want New Results, Act differently and get new results.

4. Lack of Priorities- Choose your vital 20% few activities that will bring you 80% of the results you need and want.Where you focus is, energy flows.

5. Lack of discipline - self-control is the reason why anything worth accomplishing gets done. Your performance depends on you realising your full potential and removing interferences and distractions out of the way.

6. Constant self-doubt - low self esteem leads to low self-worth and lack of confidence. Not a great combo, right? If you are constantly doubting yourself your skills and your every step, others will feel it too and it'll kill your credibility.

It's called ABC technique and here's how it work:

Keep a journal / record or notes in your phone

⚡️ACTION - What happened? Where were you? Who were you with? Describe the situation briefly.

⚡️BEHAVIOUR - What did you do to self-sabotage? What you didn’t do? How did you behave / act?

⚡️CONSEQUENCE - How your felt afterwards? What was the situation's outcome? How much did it cost your business or reputation? Keeping track of lost 💵 equivalent can be a real eye opener and a kick up your backside that will prompt positive changes hopefully.
